Charles Jock 3:49.66 1500!!!! 3/11/2012 4:37PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Is that fast enough now to prove he is a total beast? The dude was heavily criticized for "only" running 3:53 the other week and now takes that down a full 4 seconds to run 3:49! I can't wait to see how this huge boost in his endurance pays off this year.

Rodal's best 1500 was 3:47 and he won a gold medal. I think Jock is fast enough at 1500

Rodal wasn't running against a 1:41 flat WR holder who also could run 3:30 in the 15 and 45 in the 4.

I recommend Jock try the 400 or 400 hurdles. He reminds me of Kirani James.

It's getting there. I won't jump out of my seat till I see at least 3:47.

But obviously this is much more impressive. The only bad things about this is now we'll have to listen to coach D(bag).

Straight baller. Seems like he'll have the strength to go out in 49/50 and close in 53.

When did Rudisha run 3:30? as far as I know (and the IAAF knows) he has never even run a 1500. You can't just say someone is capable of running 3:30 when he has never run one.

He was not heavily criticized. All people said was that for most 144 guys, 353 is really nothing to write home about and it's true. However there were people like me that did not realize that he had split ( supposedly) 44hi before. I knew he was a very good 400 guy but not that fast. Still to go beyond 144 and become a true medal threat(143 flat or better ability), he probably needs near 4:00 mile ability and 45x to 46 flat open 400 speed. He has the speed for sure and it now appears he is closing in on the endurance. Yes, 349 is impressive for him at this point. 353 just really wasnt anything that exciting (for reference, a 142 guy like borza had as much open 400 speed as jock has shown but could run a sub 400 mile. 143 guys like and aouita and Webb did not have jock's 400 speed but could run 3.5 1500s in a row at the 353 pace that jock did last week! Yes Webb never actually ran quite that fast at 5k, but close. )

Dude, no way in hell Rudisha runs 3:30 in the 1500, are u that stupid? he could "maybe" run 3:40 but that would be his best effort. he's a 4/8 guy just like jock but he's top end speed is better (45-mid 400m) where as jock is almost a second slower which makes a huge difference.

KD's best 1500m is a 3:47 and i think jock is faster at 1500 at his age than KD was as his 3;47 came a few yrs out of college after winning a few USA titles. Jock doesn't need to prove anything in a 1500 but to run 3;49 is a sign of good base fitness. More vital would be his open 400, if he could go sub 46 i'd like to think he'd have the tools to make the finals at the olympics.

Rudisha could easily run 3:35 right now probably.

If he ran a few of them in the summer in Europe, I would expect a 3:30 from him.

Rudisha is on a different level than your avg 800 guy. He's probably the only man that could run under 20.5 in the 200, and go sub 4 in the same lifetime.

He could easily run 3:30. I'll let you think about it.

Jock has an open 400 PR of 46.30 from last year, so he is about 0.7 off Rudisha who is arguably the best 800m runner ever. Not sure why all of you think it to be a necessity to be a mid 3:30's 1500 guy to compete at the highest level in the 800. Jock has already shown he can be competitive on the global stage as evidenced by his season last year. Now he is running 9 seconds faster in the 1500 this year, seems to me that is extremely promising and damn good. He's a 400/800 guy who can split 44.xx, barely slower than Rudisha would do. He's essentially the same type of runner as Rudisha just on a lower level, he doesnt have to be an incredible 1500 guy to run well in the 800

Yes he just regularly ran against Wilson Kipketer (who was not eligible for '96 Olympics). That guys was a pushover.

Look at the fastest guys at 800 and then look at their 400 & 1500 times. Most are 46.XX with 1500s anywhere in the 3:29 to 3:37 range. The few guys with 45.XX speed do not convert to better than a 3:57 mile. Borza has PRs of 45.mid and sub 1:42.50 if I remember and his 1500 is in the 3:40s.

If Jock can run 45.mid in the open quarter he will still need 4:00 miling ability to win a medal. Looks like that is the direction he is headed though.

It's amazing how f*cking stupid a lot of people on this website are in regards to middle distance. Case in point above.

That must be a typo, because Rodal ran 3:37 (and 46.5 out of blocks).

Correct. My mistake

Rodal focused on speed/speed endurance up until '96, with a PB of 347 . In '97 he started endurance training, listening to those who said, "If you ran 1:42, think what you could do in the 15". He managed 337, got injured, and was never the same.

This puts him at about 1:45 flat shape at the moment, give or take .25. Sounds like we have our NCAA champ right here.
