You have to take your hat off to Chris Derrick for his effort in the NCAA 3000m and 5000m indoor races. The young man went for it and destroyed everyone in the field except one guy Lawi Lalang. I think it was a waste of time for Matt Centrowitz to go to World Indoor and let the pace go out in over 2:04 800m in the 1500m and still not medal. Deborah Maier clearly knew after last night that she wasn't the best kicker in the 3000m field today after Betsy Saina easily outkicked her in the 5000m. So why do Americans continue to allow race to unfold to tactics that are not benefical to them. Matt Centrowitz and Deborah Maier I hope you two saw Chris Derrick races and took notes!!!! |

WHAT ? Why are you calling out Deborah Maier? You might want to check the results, Maier finished second in the 3k and 5k - just like Chris Derrick. They don't award points for style or tactics on the podium. |

So Centro let it come down to a kick. Damn, it's not like he can close in 51 in world-class competition! |

Matt Centrowitz has done miracles in races. I'm thinking it's a waste of all of our time for you to post your opinions. Why does one man's success have to be another person's failure in your mind? |

It wasn't the pace that did Centro in. He needs a slow pace, since he's not a 3:29-30 guy yet. He didn't get good positioning, though, and indoors anything less than ideal position makes it impossible to medal. |

You win some, you lose some, but Matt like many of the other US running warriors have blazed a new path and don't need some smug arm chair statistician to explain how to run. |

WHAT? Apparently you have problem with comprehension as I wasn't stating anything about style points. CHRIS DERRICK after being outkicked by Lawi Lalang in the 5000m tired a stronger and more aggresive kick in the 3000m. DEBORAH MAIER who was easily outkicked by Betsy Saina in the 5000m allowed the pace to go out rather slow. Miss Maier then waited to the last lap to try to outkick the field. Her pre-NCAA performance showed she has great endurance and could have forced the pace from 1/2 way especially since she had already lost a sprint race in the 5000m and that winner was in the 3000m. Even if she thought she could outkick Betsy did she honestly think she could outkick Flood, Infield, Hasay etc? The point is Miss Maier stayed with the same failed tactics in the 3000m she employed in the 5000m. MATT CENTROWITZ thrilled fans across the world after his Bronze medal in the 2011 World Outdoor Championships. He and a few media wonder how he would have done had he been alittle more aggressive and not let the Kenyans start kicking before he did at 2011 Worlds. I'm just wondering as a bronze medalist why would you allow yourself to be totally out of position especially when you have such a devasting kick? |

Maybe you have a reading comprehension problem. I said they don't give points for style or tactics on the podium. Let me break it down for you, so you can understand - it doesn't matter how you get to the podium, it matters that you get on the podium. You can Monday morning QB all you want, that's pretty easy to do since you weren't in race. Perhaps if Maier or Centro would have taken your advice and made a move sooner they would have died and not finished on the podium. Ever think of that? Then you would be the first person saying they suck for making a move a like that. Some people will criticize the result no matter what the outcome. Both Derrick and Maier finished second in 3K and 5K - sure Derrick's runs were more exciting to watch - but both have the same number of the same color of medals. Face it, you just have a giant man-crush on Chris Derrick. |

LOL your funny and your last comment is hilarious; however, you are mistaken I do a crush but it's on my girlfriend and not Chris Derrick. It doesn't matter how you get on the podium but Deborah Maier didn't change her tactics even when she got outkicked the day before...there's and old saying "don't continue to beat your head on the wall hoping for different outcome unless you try something different." |

Well she did outkick Seina on Saturday using the same tactics as she did Friday. BOOM! |

Joe, don't worry about VIPAM, he's shown the inclination to be an addled anti-US running xenophobe, who lives out his life through the accomplishments of others and rushes back with his little morsels and deposits them here. Deb Maier did not have the gas left in the tank to commit to a faster pace in the 3000 after running a 15:40 5000. Two second-place finishes are amazing for her in this breakthrough year. It makes me wonder what she is capable of in the outdoor 10000. Regardless, a very bright future awaits her, but not VIPAM. |
