So I wanted to buy the Sky Speed II in Toronto today...$169.99 at Sporting Life. The Brooks Pure Flow? $139.99 at Running Room. PURE HIGHWAY ROBBERY and the reason I always buy my running shoes and gear in the US of A. Especially considering our dollar is at par...WHAT THE HELL CANADA?? |

Other people buy them obviously. As long as you don't have to then don't support them. Canadians love their 500% marked up Asian goods. They would buy 50 dollar bottles of Canadian Maple syrup made in China if somebody offered it. |

I agree, it's terrible. One of the Running Room's in Edmonton has a "Backroom Blowout" with discounted shoes; I usually spend about $60 on a pair, otherwise I buy them from Running Warehouse and have them shipped to family in the US that I'll pick up when I see them in person, to avoid paying for the shipping. |

Try MEC. www.mec.ca They are selling road running shoes that are closer in price than other retailers. I would never shop at the Running Room. |

The cheapest road running shoes that were advertised on the MEC website were still $120. I know that they often have clearance items for significantly less, but I think I'll stick to buying my shoes online. If I'm ever making decent money, I'll maybe support one of the smaller local shoe stores. |

I'll swap mine for some Canadian Prozac. |

Holabird Sports in Baltimore has the Sky Speed II for $69.95. I doubt they charge $100 to ship to Canadia. |

Are any of you vaguely familiar with an exchange rate? |

Oh forgot about that! The Sky Speeds are $69.95 in the US dollars. They're $69.37 in Canadian dollars. |

Tax and broker fees (charged by shippers here) add $50-$60, |

I just noticed Asics won't allow Holabird to ship their shoes out of the US. Neither will several other manufacturers I checked. I wonder if the shoe companies are restricting imports like the drug companies do? |

These increases are because of duties. |

Asics is one that prevents it, but Mizuno does allow it. |

Part of the reason I went minimalist. I now run in the Merrel barefoot road glove, which I bought locally here in Ottawa for $105. I ran in the Merrel trail glove last year and have over 1000 miles on them, with a few hundred more left in them I figure. I'm betting the Road glove will last as long. Another benefit is my feet and legs have never felt better. |

I got 2 nice pair of hiking shoes a few days ago for $20 a pair. My running shoes have all been from $10 to $28 a pair. I have plenty of running and hiking shoes to last me for at least a year or longer. |

Everything costs more in Canadian Dollars... even comic books. |

Try shoe prices down here in New Zealand.. I went into the running store and they're 200+ NZD which is about 165 USD at the cheapest. My parents are shipping me a pair of shoes for the rest of the semester here cause it's cheaper for them to buy them for me at home and ship them here as opposed to me buying them straight up |

Makes me realize that "Highway robbery" is an expression one never encounters outside of Canada. |
