Should be good, as always. Also, it looks like Wisconsin is going to try to get something done in the 3000 and/or 5000. Craig Miller and Jack Bolas as potential rabbits is interesting. No heat sheets for the 800 and Mile until Saturday morning. Notre Dame has gotten some criticism in the past for not releasing this stuff very far ahead of time. Kudos. http://www.und.com/sports/c-track/spec-rel/030112aaa.html Event 4 Men Distance Medley Friday 3/2/2012 - 2:00 PM 9:31.00 NCAA AUTO Lane Team Relay Seed Time Section 1 of 2 Finals 1 Minnesota A 9:50.51 1) Burkstrand, Travis 2) Holton, John 3) Abda, Harun 4) Hutton, Nick 2 Ohio State A 9:48.64 1) Fallon, Chris 2) Smith, Korbin 3) White, Dan 4) Leslie, Cory 3 Penn State A 9:35.24 1) Endress, Wade 2) Nadolsky, Aaron 3) Loxsom, Casimir 4) Creese, Robby 4 North Caroli A 10:04.18 1) Driggs, Jack 2) Parros, Clayton 3) Wanliss, O'Neal 4) Presson, Isaac 5 Princeton A 9:54.11 1) Van Ackeren, Trevor 2) Hopkins, Tom 3) Williams, Michael 4) Callahan, Peter 6 Virginia A 9:42.97 1) Gilland, Taylor 2) Anding, Kevin 3) Roller, Lance 4) Kostelac, Anthony 7 Kansas A 9:48.92 1) Wasinger, Don 2) Munsch, Josh 3) Fink, Dalen 4) Clemons, Kyle 8 Oregon A 9:36.88 1) Shrader, Brian 2) Berry, Mike 3) Guyota, Boru 4) Dunbar, Trevor 9 Air Force A 9:55.39 1) Zubey, Alex 2) Delgado, Anthony 3) Lindsay, Alex 4) Walmsley, Jim Section 2 of 2 Finals 1 Notre Dame A 10:00.58 1) Shawel, Johnathan 2) Giesting, Christopher 3) Babb, Randall 4) Rae, Jeremy 2 Wisconsin A 9:44.99 1) Mudd, Austin 2) Thompson, Aaron 3) Mellon, Zach 4) Hatz, Alexander 3 Albany A 9:49.90 1) Burke, Christopher 2) Santana, Jonathan 3) Rowell, Peter 4) Lagno, Paul 4 New Mexico A 10:10.31 1) Evans, Sam 2) York, Richard 3) Aragon, Gabe 4) Millington, Ross 5 Texas A 9:46.03 1) Jessett, CJ 2) Dreyer, Dereck 3) Thompson, Kyle 4) McGregor, Patrick 6 Villanova A 9:38.02 1) Tetreault, Brian 2) Murphy, Bryan 3) Ellison, Samuel 4) McEntee, Sam 7 Arkansas A 9:39.41 1) Lieghio, Anthony 2) Southard, Travis 3) Momoh, Leoman 4) Rono, Patrick 8 Washington A 9:35.06 1) Soberanis, Ryan 2) McNeal, Maurice 3) Whitley, Bradley 4) Bywater, Joey 9 Georgetown A 9:42.65 1) Peavey, Bobby 2) Akers, Hansel 3) Ulm, Toby 4) Springer, Andrew |

As usual, all of Piane's friends end up in the better heady (with ND). |

Why is Penn State and Oregon in the slow heat and Albany and New Mexico in the fast heat? It must be a mistake. |

If you project out DMR times based on season bests for the legs I bet you would take back your comment. First heat features Oregon/Ohio State/Penn State/Princeton and the loaded Minnesota half-milers will definitely be pushing the pace without a sub4 anchor. Second heat has Arkansas/Notre Dame/Villanova/Wisconsin. Rae and McEntee are nasty anchors. |

Equal heats. They basically split the sub-4 anchors into two heats... make them both quick. |

it'll be interesting to see who scratches from the mile and the 800 after the dmr's. |

Creese is entered in all 3. |

It's strange that Minnesota isn't listing Pachuta as running. I'm guessing he will run the 800 and Abda the 400. They could come through with a gap lead around 5:30 and then what is their 800 guy running the Mile supposed to do? Great stuff to think about. |

Sam Ellison is running the 800 for Villanova, and he's in disgusting shape right now. |

Are Bolas and Miller actually rabitting the distance races? I didn't know that was legal in college meets. Good for them picking up a paycheck, I guess. |

I doubt they're picking up any paycheck. Just helping out their former teammates. |

Wouldn't it be better to get it out of the way, recover from your conference meet and focus on nationals? |

The standard is tough. It's one thing for individual guys to be in shape early in the season and get auto marks for individual events, but to have all your relays guys ready to run fast enough often takes more time. Also, DMRs aren't really rabbit-able. Thus, unlike 3ks, 5ks, miles, etc. you can't just have someone set a hot pace for you and go after the auto. You basically need the full competition, unless you are one of the best relay teams and can solo the standard, which is not easy. Thirdly, the rules only let you substitute one leg at nationals, so unless you have a good sense of what your 4 legs are going to be, you lock yourself into a lineup if you hit the auto early in the season. |

One could argue it's better to train during the early part of the season and look for a couple big races towards the end. I personally have never understood chasing times all year. What I find is those runners plateau real early. The ones that stop training hard at the end of the season and just race a lot tend to do better when it matters. |

Princeton will have the top time. Callahan has run 3:58 twice going out in 3:00/3:01 if he goes out hard he will split low! |

Regarding Heat 1: Oregon, Penn State, and Minnesota each have very strong middle legs. The race is won on the anchor, but the middle legs are what break things open. Depending on how the 1200 goes, I think those teams will put pressure on anchors like Callahan and Leslie to have to catch. How far back will the sub-4:00 guys be when they get the stick? (Creese of Penn State is a sub-4 in his own right, so he would be tough to run down). |
