It turns out that Ajee' Wilson did run on the 4x400-meter relay yesterday after all. That's right, the senior at Neptune was running with the baton on the third leg. For all of you that went to the Meet of Champions yesterday at the Bennett Center in Toms River and missed seeing one of the legends of the sport in action, don't blame your eyes. Wilson wasn't in Toms River. Since her team scratched from the 4x400 at the M of C, Wilson took a trip with a U.S. All-Star team to the Gibson Relays in Jamaica. The Florida State-bound Wilson was her spectacular self. Team USA was in third place when Wilson received the baton. By the time she handed off to the anchor, Sandra Farquharson of New York, team USA was ahead by 20 meters. Wilson's split??? How about 52 point!!!!! Video of race is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK6osz3nemc&feature=plcp&context=C356d00eUDOEgsToPDskJZTVQggZYQQm_95uHyl2VV Team USA went on to win the 4x400 in a blazing 3:37.23!!. The splits were 55 point for Kiah Seymour of Washington D.C., 54 point for Olicia Williams of New York, 52 point for Wilson and 54 points for Farquharson. Wilson, the state record holder in the 800 indoors and outdoors, will be in action again at the New Balance Nationals in New York next month when she defends her 800 title. It's not known yet if she'll race before NBIN. |

Wow 52 point is a good spilt for a collegiate runner. For a high school 800m/1500m runner to be spilting that in Feburary is very rare, hope she isn't peaking to soon this year. |

You can cut straight to her getting the baton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK6osz3nemc&feature=youtu.be#t=1m40s Very impressive, especially that she did not appear to break down in the final 100 after going out hard. |

Or the next Mary Decker Slaney. Remember as a junior in high school she ran a sub 4:50 mile and could improve on that if she ran the mile more. With two returning high school young ladies under 2:03 the high school 800m record may finally be seriously threaten and possibly a sub 2 minute 800m this year. |

I would love to see Ajee and/or Amy break Kim Gallagher's impressive 800m High School Record. Anyone have any results on any recent results for Amy as it seems she is bypassing indoors. Ajee is focusing on World Junior Championships and I hope Amy Weissenbach is doing the same as it would be a great opportunity for them to break the 2 minute barrier. Do you think Ajee Wilson or Amy Weissenbach will break 2 minutes this summer? |

The ease at which she ran the 52 was very impressive. If she hadn't caught the Jamaican so quickly and had to run harder Ajee would have no doubt be able to post a 51 spilt. When the season begin I thought Amy had a better chance at threatening the 2 minute barrier in some time trial meet but now it seems Ajee could do it as well. If either break the 800m HSR they would be world class in high school just like Kim Gallagher and Mary Decker was back in the day. |
