This conversation will never end. I too was skeptical of the 15:45 average when the poll was taken. I have run far too many races where no one runs near that time, so how could that be an AVERAGE around here? The answer is simple and was made to me in another recent thread: Serious runners come here. A regular 5k road race is comprised of hobby joggers, weekend warriors, and a few have-beens. Even those have-beens running 16:40 to win a local road race may have once run 15:15 on a track team in college. That isn't rare. |

Keep in mind first that faster people are more likely to respond, and then factor in the fact that the average letsrunner lies by approximately 1 minute, and the 17:50 estimate seems pretty accurate. |

Average 5km of Letsrunners, I would guess 17 minutes. There are quite a few sub 14 guys. Certainly some hobby joggers but for the most part serious i.e sub 18 guys and girls. My PB is 14:56, lots of low 15's and unfortunatley lots much slower than that the last few years. would kill to break even 16 again. |

14:58 road If I was going to lie I'd say 13:58 in a track race. I'm thinking that that's about as fast as I could say and 1) have it still be believable, and 2) slow enough that you wouldn't be able to check. |
