who gunna win it?
NCAA 3K: Hasay vs. Flood vs. Maier vs. Infeld vs. D'Agostino vs. Reilly vs. Van Dalen 2/12/2012 11:24PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Obviously there are other strong contenders (Betsy Saina, Amanda Winslow, Waverly Neer, Megan Goethals, Kathy Kroeger, Tara Erdmann, etc) but these women all are capable of going under 9 minutes this year or already have.

I say it's going to be a fast race because the fresh girls don't want the one's doubling back to contend in a kicker's race.

So, who ya got?

History could be made.

Flood looks unstoppable right now. If she keeps that up I don't see her losing.

After watching Infeld's kick at Valentine, there is NO WAY Flood is a strong favorite. Infeld ran 9:00 and absolutely blew away the last 400.

Jordan has one subpar race and everyone forgets her? She has a good kick too (took down all the other runners at NCAA Cross) and great endurance. She's hungry for a repeat title.

Going with Hasay for the win over Infeld. D'Agostino always comes on strong so I'm picking her for third over Flood.

Katie Flood is on another level this season...8:55 and 4:28 in the two weeks of the season!! My predictions: Infeld wins the mile. Flood wins the 3k and Hasay wins the 5k. If anyone can double win it's flood
Umm...

Hasay is my favorite but I gotta give it to Flood with Infeld, D'Agostino, or even Maier possible to take it.

good question

Not sure where Sisson is. She was supposed to run against Infeld and D'Agostino at BU but didn't race...hopefully she's not injured/sick.

Sisson is another sub 9:00 contender. She ran 4:44 for the mile when she ran 9:13 for 3k (en route to her 9:51 in HS); she recently ran 4:38, right behind D'Agostino, and is much stronger in longer events. Hope she's healthy and races again soon.

Other than the 5k, and eventually, the 10K.

Just want to bring Hannah Kiser of Idaho into the picture. Her 9:07 this weekend was a 26-second PR.

What other events are the partcipants likely to run? That could make a big difference. Infeld and Hasay will for sure be battling it out in the DMR and that could very well come down to Oregon and Georgetown. So that might wear them down a little for the 3k.

Lucy Van Dalen could do quite well here. Her 4:11.78 1500 at Millrose converts to a 4:31.92 mile according to tfrrs.org compared with 4:32.95 last year, the same season she ran 8:56.77. It isn't too big a stretch of the imagination to think that her 3000m potential might have improved along with her mile performance.

On the downside, I'm not sure her race tactics are the best. In 2011 indoors she was fresh going into the 3k, but didn't make a move until 800m from the end - easy to be an armchair critic I guess, but I though she might have gone earlier. Then in the outdoor 1500 she seemed to spend a lot of time in lane 2 - maybe not enough difference to make up the gap to Reid, but perhaps it could have been closer.

Bump.

Katie Flood is still undefeated, coming from behind to beat Kesselring and Maier in a nation's best DMR. But yes, I have heard of Jordan Hasay, Maier's 15:29 5,000 is impressive, and Infeld, D'Agostino and Van Dalen are strong, too. I think this will be one of the meet's highlights, with a number of girls within range of each other with various strengths and stories.

As an Iowa native the same age as Flood, there's no question who I'm rooting for.

I say Hasay makes a move at the bell that only Flood and Infeld can cover. Both overtake Hasay off the last turn and Flood wins by a matter of strides.
when is the race?

I'm voting for Flood in a runaway.

Flood wins
still an underdog?

LVD for the double. You heard it here first. She is fresh, and got the times out of the way early, hence her slower seed times compared to the rest of the girls. If she can race well and has learned from past mistakes its in the bag.

This has got to be one of the most loaded races ever...

Hasay is doubling with the mile. I think she will definitely win the mile especially since Flood and Infeld are not running it. However i'm not sure if she can get the double win and beat Flood or Infeld when not fresh.

Maer is running the 5k so she will probably be tired also.

Either way I think all three women are very deserving of the title. I'm always rooting for Hasay, Flood deserves a national title with the season she has been having and I really want Infeld to finally win an individual title after finishing second to Reid so many times.
such a good race...

This race is STACKED. I can't wait.

Add Sisson and Cuffe to the discussion after Sisson was pretty close to Sheila Reid last week and Cuffe ran 9:07 leading a ton. Although I don't think those two will be up with the aforementioned ladies.

I'm not so sure Hasay is the definite favorite for the mile. I'm rooting for her but Van Dalen has run fast and won't have a DMR in her legs from the night before. Lipari's kick is ALWAYS a factor and also won't have a tough DMR in her legs (Hasay will likely bate Infeld and Flood in the DMR Friday night).

I love Jordan Hasay and would love to see her win it, but I think that it will be either Flood or Infeld (which is great cause I am huge fans of both!). Flood is obviously on fire, but Infeld's kick has been really underrated this season and is very very good.

D'Agostino somehow always flies onto the radar but seems to show up and get on the podium. I'm going to pick her for fourth though.

I'm going to say that Infeld "surprises" over Flood (even though it shouldn't really be a surprise as I think Infeld is in 8:55 or better shape too), with Hasay fading a bit for third just ahead of D'Agostino.
