Thanks to our friends at UMBC for posting the video on youtube. Alan Webb's 800m race captured from about 10 feet in front of where he fell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDOA6-yqGTI The UMBC guys talked to Webb afterwards. Said he did a workout after the race and wasn't upset. The video is on the channel of IC4a triple jumper Shioma Obemeata and was shot by Matt Davis. As for the times: 1 163 Empty, George George Mason 1:53.31 6 403 Webb, Alan NIKE 1:59.43 For Alan's splits off the video I had: 28.2 57.4 1:26.0 So Webb would have likely run 1:53 high if he didn't fall or 1:54 |

He just lost his footing, No sense in sprinting home. He looked OK |

He looked more than OK to me. I thought he looked pretty smooth. I'm routing for Alan to make the comeback, and I think he can look at this race as a small step in the right direction after his 1:55. |

When is Alan NOT going to have a weird incident? At which race? |
| not about you, bro |

I'm sorry you feel insulted, but please understand that this had nothing to do with you. |
| better than last race |

He ran better than he did in the previous race. My view is that he really was seriously injured last year, and this is no easy task at his age to come back. He likely will get back to form - or at least some level of National level prowess - within 6 weeks or so. But this is no easy path here - a fact that he must well know. I have been watching him since 9th grade and believe my comments to be accurate. I wish him well. |

I thought from the video on the home stretch he was making a move for the win when he fell. |

Yeah he was trying to make a move to overcome some college kid no one has heard of. Which other 3:47 miler in the world do you know having trouble mixing it up with 1:54 college runners? Which ones? |

Exactly. I thought he looked pretty good. |

Yes but the guy passed him while he was going at 1:54 pace. There were 100 college guys that could have run faster this weekend. |

I am a huge Webb fan, but something is going on. Ive defended him ad nauseum. I got really upset watching this. He's done. Toast. This guy was at the pinnacle of the sport now he is getting out kicked by BAD, not even mediocre, college 800 runners. That fall looked very suspicious. He didnt even clip the guy in front of him. who just bites it without some sort of contact from another runner or rail? |

On a banked track minus the BS he was good for 1:51-52. For a mile specialist that is great for indoors. I hate to say this, because its been expected for so many years since 08, but Webb could put something in the low 3:30's this year. He just turned 29, he probably has several years left to be fast again, and yes even go to the olympics and do something. |

I can't imagine this fall was on purpose. You're probably thinking he took a dive so he wouldn't get beat or something like that. Well, he was in a position to make a move for the win. He wasn't fading. My thought is that he was getting ready to move outside and his feet touched each other, sending him down. |

He clearly got his foot caught up in the other guys foot just as he was attempting to pass. The other guy was lucky he didn't go down either, and Webb should have known better than to be so close when passing. If Webb didn't go down he probably wins in low 1:53 high 1:52. And this is probably a workout for him. |

The biggest issue here is that Webb, despite having been a runner for 15 years...still hasn't learned how to race properly. I don't get it. He's more of a timetrialer than an actual racer. He's been around long enough that he should know how to race, and tripping (if it was unintentional) up like that in a closing stretch against middle-of-the-pack college runners shows that he hasn't mastered basic racing fundamentals. Its why, despite having a faster PR than centrowitz, centrowitz is the one with a medal and Webb isn't. Face it, he can't race. |
| Just sayin dude |

Hey even El G missed two Olympic Medals because of racing mistakes. These people arent as "perfect" as you are assuming. |
