For anyone on here with an IQ of 126 or above (95th percentile) do you have any problems dealing with people? Have you found it difficult to find people you can have meaningful relationships with? I don't think I'm particularly intelligent and yet I still find myself thinking most people around me are complete idiots. I just wonder what it's like for the brilliant people out there.

Dumb people tend to think they're smarter than they really are, and vice versa for smart people. So if you find yourself thinking that you're really smart, just keep in mind that it probably means you're dumb.

Surround yourself with smart people. Make friends with smart people. Don't go to bars if you are looking for intelligent conversation. Having smart friends from college helps too.

Also don't think that there's nothing to be learned simply because someone has a lower IQ than you. It doesn't discredit their experience or opinions. Remember, there have been a lot of very smart people who have done some very dumb things and given some very bad advice.

just move to Manhattan - you won't feel so smart for long.

And you will have plenty of smart people to hang out with.

This place is unbelievable.

Meaningful relationships are tough if you are out at 3 SD. But from my experience if you and your partner are no more than 2SD apart you'll have no problem.
Most folks are not total idiots by any metric and some how I get the feeling there is a lot of "I would not do it that way/my way is better" in your view of the sea of idiots your raft floats in.

No doubt. I'm one, actually. (I don't say that with pride.) But that doesn't necessarily mean they're *unintelligent* douchebags.

I echo what somebody said above: you can still learn a lot from, and find stuff in common with, the two-digit folks. In addition, you could join Mensa, which has some very nice people (and some HUGE douchebags, particularly when drunk) in it.

Fortunately, I was able to find a woman to marry who had intelligence similar to mine--and a pleasant personality and great body. (Found her in Manhattan, actually.) She's able to get all of my jokes, even when she doesn't laugh at them. Having your jokes understood is important, I found.

And I work with people who are (mostly) of high intelligence and have good educations. This helps, too.

Factual opinion: People that think they are smart, usually aren't where it matters, and people that think they're special are usually boring.

IQ really means very little--or rather, it means a lot about one particular kind of intelligence, but that is not the only factor in being a truly intelligent and wise person.

My tested IQ (in a full IQ test) is 150, somewhere near the 99.9th percentile, and my 11th grade SAT score with no preparation or practice was 2370. I still feel like an idiot regularly, even when talking to people who I know for a fact received much lower scores on such tests. There are many different kinds of intelligence, and even people who lack academic or pattern-recognition intelligence can be intelligent emotionally or just very wise and rational in their life views.

There are complete idiots in the world, obviously. But I think we need to remember that we all have weaknesses. I can sometimes be socially unintelligent. I recognize this, and I really think it's much more detrimental for me than poor performance son intelligent tests are for other people. Intelligence isn't simple.

iq is teach to the test. i.e. you can take courses to improve your score. proves that it's a misnomer.

Everyone is good at something - learn to notice and appreciate each person's strengths.

Also, your question comes across as super snotty - which makes me wonder how you come across. For instance:

In high school and college my test scores were all in the 99th percentile - 98th percentile seemed low. (True.) You think 95th is high?! You gotta be kidding me. Do you even know the difference between "it's" and "its"? Can you tie your shoe laces? Your nose is dripping on your mis-matched shoes.

See how obnoxious that was? You don't want to come across like I just did. And the best way is not to THINK in that way. You'll get laid more and be a lot happier in life. Trust me.

It's usually fine, as long as you're not doing anything that actually requires intelligence. Playing poker with idiots and listening to them talk about whether they "feel" the cards are going to come is pretty frustrating, but at least you can still take their money.

I always think the most successful people, in general, are those in the above average intelligence (say 80th to 95th percentile) range. Smart enough to do pretty well at academics and most job tasks, but dull enough to be able to relate to everyone. Also these people seem to lack some of the awkwardness that is typical of those with extreme intelligence.

With respect to those above the 95th percentile...clearly some are very successful, but there are some who have very poor ability to relate to others, which limits their success greatly. Seems like high variance in this group.

As for me, I'm somewhere in the 90s, but definitely not of extreme intelligence. I can do pretty well in career matters, but I don't really give a f'k and would much rather just be outside. I don't know how this relates to my intelligence or lack thereof. Maybe I'm just lazy in a capitalistic sense.

Relating to average joes always came pretty easy for me. The only group that ever really bothers me is overly opinionated people, but these can be either smart or stupid.

Being intelligent, you'll find ways to learn from every person and situation. Labeling people as idiots closes you off to ways you can learn, and intelligent people seek learning opportunities wherever they can be found. Good luck!
