So, are these things worth the money? I've been having pain/tightness in my soleus that feels like a bruise for a few weeks now. I've been thinking about getting some, but want to hear you opinions. I'll ignore the rash of replies regarding what to put in the socks. |

I'm someone who has no problem using/being seen in compression socks, ... but you need to get out more. |

So, is there a difference between ones you run in and ones you recover in? |

same socks should work for either running or recovery, get a pair and see how they work for you |

Mehhh - I got a pair and tried them - over-rated AND you look like a poseur-triguy-toolbag for wearing them. I've never seen any REAL science that say they work. Save your money. |

There's plenty of REAL science out there talking about what the benefit is. If you care so much about what you look like, why did you pick the sport where you run around in short-shorts in public? |

They are great for recovery. I am over forty and usually wear them to bed after a hard workout or long run and can definitely tell the difference. You can get them for under $20. http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=416754&productId=416754&navAction=jump&navCount=3 |

I got a pair and have been wearing them at night. Too soon to tell. |

I have several pairs; the most expensive cost $80 and the least about $35. Honestly, the most expensive ones are the best; I bought them 2 years ago and they are still just as good as the day I bought them. I wear them during long runs, or half or full marathons. Then after I go home and shower, I put on a different pair and it actually helps my legs feel better. (Also, after a marathon I will get really bad cramps in my calf muscles if I don't wear compression socks.) |

I bought my pair based on my running shoe size. Should I have got them in my "real" foot size? Also, are socks better/worse/same as the sleeves? I don't love the thickness of the socks and would have to wear an extra pair if I run in the compression socks. |

For compression socks, I like to get them in my real size versus running size. Better fit. I use the socks mainly for recovery purpose i.e.; after long runs, hard races and if traveling too long on plane or driving. I like the calve sleeves for running/racing (especially if it's cold) helps keep my calves warm or if they are sore. Warning: this ONLY applies to my experience and I don't claim that it works for everyone. |

I've been taking a dump in my compression socks for some time now but I haven't seen an improvement in my recovery time. They are a waste of money. |

Totally shocked by this. |

If you are having pain and soreness I would give them a try. Although they don't completely eliminate discomfort, they definitely help. Any medical supplies store should carry them and they are relatively cheap. |

I got socks and sleeves and they helped. The socks seem to work best when I use them for recovery. |

I think the word "Recovery" has becoming a word like "awareness". For me it's a buzz word used to sell stuff, but it's so non-specific, so fuzzy that you can neither prove nor disprove the results. I don't give money to organizations concerned with "cancer awareness" "child abuse awareness" etc.. and I'm becoming more and more skeptical of anything that advertises it's self as aiding in "recovery". |

So, you don't believe in the time and things that occur between when one run ends and another begins? |

I'm skeptical that you have to buy X food, or buy X drink product or buy X tight/socks, or buy X foam roller or the stick, etc.. I'm even skeptical of the benefits of an ice bath (unless it's after a really hot run.) |

I think a lot of people are confusing this. They are wearing the socks while running and don't see any performance gains. Also the studies don't proof any performance advantage. That's not what they are good for. They are good for recovery. Now a lot of people wear them only for recovery. I think that's wrong, too. My personal experience is: wear them DURING the run and you will feel less sore the NEXT DAY. |
