We received an email today from Brian Truglio, an LRC visitor, with a worthy cause. He's producing a film for public television on a cross country rivalry between two Native-American high schools and needs the help of the LRC community to get the project funded. Please go to our Kickstarter page and watch our video at http://kck.st/s9Ktqe Born to Run author Christopher McDougall posted on his blog yesterday that he will reveal the "Best Story Never Told" - the missing chapter of Born to Run - at an exclusive screening of Racing the Rez for any backer who donates $10 or more - but ONLY if Racing the Rez is funded first. We now have 6 days left and $4,000 to go - the kick to Kickstarter is that if we don't reach our goal ($15,000) in 30-days, no donations are processed and we don't get a dime. Our deadline is January 13th at 9:34 am EST. Two incredible stories for the price of one - don't leave both untold. (Date and place of screening to be determined and, naturally, travel and accommodation are not included.) McDougall's story will later be turned into a short film & posted online. $4,000 and 6 days to go! @ the clarifier Thank you very much for bumping it to the home page clarifier, much help! @Tuscon xc Here's a general breakdown of what the funds will be used for from our Kickstarter page: WHERE WILL YOUR FUNDS GO - Final editing to sharpen the story and bring the film to broadcast length (Producer and Editor) - Editing a trailer for the film - Finishing, recording and licensing the music - Completing the final picture elements including color correction and graphics (aka On-line) - Mixing the sound - Making and certifying the master tapes for broadcast - Promotional costs - Kickstarter.com and amazon processing fee of about 8% - A portion of funds will go toward the purchasing and shipping of rewards And yes! That is Billy Orman, he is one of the boys featured in the documentary. He is currently running for Harvard in Boston - I actually saw him two days ago when I picked him up at the airport. He's buoyant as always, though wearing his hair shorter these days. Great to have Billy back in town. Thanks for the info and good luck with the project. I am looking forward to seeing it and sharing it with high school running fans in southern Arizona. Glad to hear Billy is doing well. I got to see him run many times over the past few years and he was always a joy to watch - usually with a big smile on his face. |

Is this a donation or an investment? If the film gets picked up and goes to Cannes or something will I be a part owner? I'm all for a high risk investment and investing in a movie is typically a high risk/high reward investment... But I'm not interested in donating to a movie, sorry. I give to the Salvation Army. |

For those of us who know first hand of this film and its producer, believe me, this is not a movie being made as a money making venture. Brian spent the better part of 2 years living out here at his own expense, traveling between Tuba City and Chinle, filming virtually every practice and meet, going to kids homes and their grandparents homes to do interviews, going to schools to do interviews, etc etc. This is not a commercial movie. It is a documentary filmed from the heart, because its producer/director cares about the kids out here, not as an income producing venture. It is your choice whether you want to support it or not, but I felt that I needed to write that. |

The boys in Racing the Rez showed tremendous courage in sharing their stories and struggles with me and now it's time for their voices to be heard. We still have three days left!
