Sub 5 min mile every day for 1 year 11/24/2011 9:25AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
In 2012, I am thinking about running a sub 5 minute mile every day for 1 year. Preferably in the middle of my daily run. I know this has been done before. Anybody want to join me? We can start a thread for it. I am going to record it on my Garmin for verification.

1 mile PR- 4:12
10 mile PR- 53:20

Just one of those illogical challenges. I will never run Badwater, but this seems about as challenging.

It's an interesting goal, but I think in general, more people would be impressed if you ran one sub-4 mile instead of 365 sub-5 miles.

seems kind of selfish, if you ask me. Why don't you assist in a food shelter program, or help the needy? Sounds like a personal waste of time.

i bet you wont be able to do it. you might be able to get 360/365 of the days. what happens when you are sick or injured. i assume it snows in kansas in the winter and there can be some nasty rain/wind in the summer. good luck if you actually try to do it

I considered trying this for a month once, and made it about nine days before realizing I wouldn't be able to run the half-marathon I was planning without messing up the race. I did it at the end of my runs and on teh same stretch of road.

. . . and I support this idea. I'd do it, too, but the problem is

1 mile PR-5:15
10 mile PR-1:04:28

Go for it!! In 1976 Feb 29th was on Sun. I heard of a guy who said he would surf every day until Feb 29th was on a Sun. again in 2004. 28 years and he did it!!
Sub 5 every day for a year? Yes, that's a good goal.
JUST DO IT!!

Do it on a treadmill and just set the speed to 12.1 mph. That is the easiest way to go, an it's mindless. You don't fail unless you can't stay on the treadmill.

I have almost identical PR's to the OP (3:52 1500m) and it seems like this challenge would be incredibly easy if you actually committed to it. Running a 4:58 is not very hard if that is the most difficult thing you need to do each day.

Why are you on Letsrun? Arent you selfishly wasting time commenting on needless things when you could assist a food shelter program, or help the needy? :D

It will take less than five minutes a day!
