If the Beer Mile were announced today as an Olympic event, who would medal? Who would the USA team be? 11/4/2011 3:26PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I'm guessing the Kenyans would take their 4th-, 5th-, and 6th-best steeplers and get them in beer mile training with the possibility of a sweep (in both events). Even with less than a year of drinking experience I can't imagine the East Africans not being on the top of the world rankings. I doubt the current world's best wouldn't be very competitive when medals are on the line. Maybe some Canadians and Americans could sneak into the top 8.

I imagine the first name to come up in the USA team discussion would have to be one A. Webb. Nick Symmonds could probably run around 4:45 with dedicated specific training, but I doubt he'd sacrifice his 800 training for it. Could any non-pros get on the team? What would the standard for the Trials be?

Pete Magill would win gold at 50!

'Course he would fail the drug test after.

That give the gold to Anton Krupika. But he'd fail the drug test...

Leaving Kip Litton with the gold...until video replay showed he spilled his beer on purpose and had a "friend" intentionally miscount his laps.

Nick Symmonds gets it.

kenyans might have a hard time due to their relatively smaller stature.

If this were an event in 2004, a teammate of mine would have cleaned anyone's clock. 4:03-4 for the mile, but more important that he was a hard partier on a weekly basis. I doubt anyone paired running and drinking like this guy, at least no one I've been around. He never lost a chugging competition, ever. I'm talking a couple seconds for a 12 oz beer. All this to say the drinking side is probably being downplayed, I think it's got to be an experienced drinker to take this one down, not some Kenyan that's stumbling out into lane 5 by the 3rd lap.

Solinsky is a big guy im sure he can pound down some beers quick and I also agree with Webb. So I guess 3rd on the team would be between Symmonds, or Wheating.
For realsies?

I couldn't see Magill or Krupicka failing a drug test. Just sayin'.

Gold medalist for sure, but he's Irish, not American.

Solinsky would be up there. Most people from Wisconsin can put beers down.

OT time, I'm thinking 5:20 or so. Ben Bruce would switch over and dominate.

Rudisha for the win. Webb makes the team but is too full from chinese food to keep down last beer. Solinski and Wheating would do well.

Where are people getting the idea that Wheating would be a good Beer Miler? I saw him at the grocery store and dude was getting mad fruits and vegetables, not a brew in sight.

2 things

First, this is one event the east Africans would suck at. When you weight 100 pds you are gonna get trashed.

Secondly, can't believe it took so long for someone to say Solinsky. That guy would finish and would even be buzzed.

Speaking from experience, throwing up is more of an issue than simply "getting trashed" and wandering into the wrong lane. little person needs to TRAIN just to hold down 48. oz without puking just standing still.

Theoretically, I think the record could be in the 4:30s. think 8 seconds a beer and 60 seconds a lap and you've got it. Is this possible?
