Runners and Athletes, Starting August 25th, 24-year old Sam Fox will attempt to break the speed record on the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, running it in 60 days. Sam's mother has Parkinson's disease, and he is doing this as a way to raise awareness. Run While You Can is a documentary feature directed by Marion Mauran that will capture Sam's story and epic run. The film has launched a fundraising campaign through Kickstarter.com to raise $12,000 of the production budget. See the pitch here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1627629962/run-while-you-can-a-documentary-film?ref=recently_launched and visit www.runwhileyoucanfilm.com to read the synopsis and crew bios, and learn more about the film. We are actively seeking donors, sponsors, and collaborators for the feature. Please use this thread to make suggestions for other organizations, companies, or donors that may be interested in collaborating with the film and Sam Fox's cause. We'd also like to hear your thoughts on the documentary to be! We appreciate your input, The Gaspee Films Team |

He looks good enough. Try to get New Balance involved. |

Hi A Gril, thanks for the post. Yeah, Sam's in great shape. Why New Balance? |

He looks good enough? PCT is pretty legit. Looks are not going to get him through the desert. Could be a good film worth checking out. Good luck to him. |

NB seems to be investing a lot more money and resources into the running community these days. I would be curious as to what Sam's training looks like for this. |

Thanks for the tip--I'll check NB out. Would you be interested in learning more about Sam's training through video? |

I know I sure would be interested in more vids on him and his training. I think the more people are exposed to this guy, and learn more about him as a person and a runner, the more they'll care for him and be invested in his story. That kind of pre-journey background humanizes him and allows us to get more attached. |

Good suggestions. I'll take this to our director/producer and see what we can have posted to our website (www.runwhileyoucanfilm.com or Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Run-While-You-Can-A-Documentary-Film/142854429113109) |

I passed this along to a friend who works for the PR section of Outdoor Research Company. Maybe some good will come of that. Have you tried getting sponsor from other companies? La Sportiva? Patagonia? Other trail running companies? Or lightweight gear companies that are regularly used on the PCT? Just a thought. Good luck. |

Hi Kevino, Thank you for passing along RWYC to your friend at OCR--I really hope he reaches out. As far as other sponsors are concerned, yes, we're looking into all of our options at the moment. These are great companies to consider, however, and I'll add them to the list. Thank you! -Run While You Can Team |

A former college housemate of mine solo'd PCT - Northbound. He was fairly aggressive with the number of miles he hiked and did it just short of four months. The only concern I have is that Sam appears to be starting WAY late to get it done at all. August 25 start means he'll be done by October 25. If he's going northbound (or "up" in PCT terms), he's going to have some problems in the Cascades and North Cascades with cold and potential snow in October. He may catch a break if he's going southbound - but again, he may run into problems in southern Oregon or northern Cali with weather issues. |

Isn't there still snow over much of the PCT? This is a really bad year for such a venture, with a lot of winter and late late spring snowfall. And as the other poster mentioned, he's awfully late in the season to be starting such a trip. It doesn't sound like he knows what he is doing, has he ever hiked the PCT before? |

Hi PDX, That's an impressive bout that your housemate did--4 months is a wicked pace, especially alone. Sam will be traveling southbound. The other two record holders travelled northbound. Any sponsorship ideas? |

How is the trail in northern WA looking? I was up at Mt. Baker a few weeks back and the snow volume is amazing. WSDOT has decided not to plow to Artist Point. http://www.king5.com/news/Theres-so-much-snow-remains-DOT-cant-plow-it-all-126731408.html I'd suspect sections of the PCT still have significant snow. |

Yeah...The PCT in WA still has significant amounts of snow. I live at snoqualmie pass, 1 mile from the PCT, and it only takes 5 miles of northbound travel to hit continuous snow as of last week. Southbound is clear for a ways. I wish him the best of luck and hopefully by the end of august a lot of the snow will be clear. If the camera crew needs a place to hang out when they reach snoqualmie pass let me know. |

Bumps are appreciated. We've got two week's left on our Kickstarter and about half of that amount donated. Thanks! |

Hi Kevino, thanks for the snow report. The weather window in which Sam can successfully run is really narrow. The end of August is the best possible time at which he can complete this run. Again, please share our Kickstarter link with anyone who you may think is interested.
