Of the incredible marathons over the last couple of days, which was more impressive - Geoffrey Mutai's 2:03:02 on the net downhill / wind-aided Boston -or- Emmanuel Mutai's 2:04:40 London performance ?? Hopefully we'll see the "battle of the Mutai's" in the future - to settle it once nad for all... |

Freudian slip? I meant to type once and for all, but the way it came up was pretty funny too! |

I'd say Emanuel because he ran away from the other contenders during his race. Geoffrey had at least one other runner with him through 26+ miles. |

I would say Emmanuel was more impressive. The reason being there was no tail wind so his last 10k was his pure stamina and endurance over others. If I look at Boston, we see a number of top guys running incredibly. I know these are good runners, but Ryan Hall's training does not put him in 2:04 zone if not for the wind. We know Geoffrey Mutai is a 2:04 - 05 zone athlete, so his 2:03 is just what I could have expected given that Ryan could also get carried to 2:04. As for Emmanuel Mutai, this guy was not considered for a win, let alone a course record. That means his results are a great improvement and quite incredible. |

Obviously Emmanuel. He would have run close to 2 hours in Boston. |

Emmanuel. More dominant win over greater competition. |

Emmanuel Mutai looked like he could run 2:02 in London. Amazing performance. |

Let's take up a collection to get them to race head to head. I predict that they tie for gold in London 2012. Of course I would bet that someone else wins gold. Tom |

Both are legendary runs, but I'm going to give the edge to Geoffrey Mutai. Even if there is a 90 second conversion factor for the wind- thats still a 2:04:33 at Boston (which is far greater performance than a 2:04:40 at London since Boston is a WAY tougher course). |
