4:06.22, by 2 seconds over second place. |

http://www.huskers.com/fls/100/trackstats/11Big12Indoor/index.htm It would have been nice to see him take a crack at his record, but I understand why he didn't. |

Which are both impressive performances, but it's safe to say that the German hype machine on LetsRun has been WAY off before... http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=2912804 |

...Consistent...backwards...pro, er, regression. |
| How Things Really Work |

not saying he has PRO-gressed, but honestly, you're gonna assume he's regressing from that time in a conference meet about which you know next to nothing? the guy who finished second, over two seconds back, ran 4:00 a few weeks ago. So yeah, German isn't doing anything super special, sure, but this was hardly a 4:06 performance in a race where the runners were going for time...clearly these guys are all a bit faster than that, yeah? |

and wha wha wha what is your time for the full mile?!? |

yeah...because championships racing is all about running fast. You do know a lot about the sport! |
| My take on it |

My guess (obviously I don't know for sure) is that he was supposed to start out slow, that way he couldn't just run away from everyone. He'll have to face Acosta and Centrowitz in the NCAA final, and won't be able to just outrun them. |
| What the heck |

I thought that was how you win. |

That's the truth. The most talented american born runner ever. I'll defend that last sentence forever (or until someone better). Is figuring out who has the most talent a precise science? No, but still. His 3:55.02 indoors at age 18 years, 3 months, and 26 days is superior to Webb's 3:53.43 outdoors at age 18 years, 4 months and 14 days. He won an NCAA 1500m title as a true freshman leading the entire race! If he can stay healthy all summer, he should be able to do some pretty good stuff. And if he stays healthy all the way through NEXT summer, he will do some really really big stuff. |

This is the most impressive performance by German for a long time, to put 2 secs into a quality field in a time that slow overall is incredible, and shows a racing savvy, and vicious finish previously not seen. We all know he can run fast, but he looks like he can now race. |

THANK YOU. Finally an intelligent post. I swear people know nothing about championship races, all they do is look at the time and make judgements. German is running for points, not a fast time. It's been a while since he's been in a race like this, and he ran it to win. Get a clue people.

Umm no, and it's not even close. When you get down into the mid 3:50's or faster a difference of 1½ seconds is a big gap. |

Jim Ryun ran 3:55 as an 18 year old in 1965 on a cinder track to break the american record, high school record, and defeat the olympic champion from the previous summer. Also ran 3:59 as a 17 year old after being knocked off the track. World record in the 880 (1:44.9) and mile (3:51.3) a year later at age 19. Still holds the american junior record at 800, 1500, and mile. "Defend" it. |
