Galen Rupp will be racing Koech in Germany February 11th. Koech is the 4th fastest ever indoors with a 13:02 last year. also daniel komen NOT the 7:20 for 3k runner, but a good runner in his own right having run 3:29 for 1500, last year when koech won in 13:02, komen had a big lead and had a chance at a sub 13, but he miscounted his laps and was doing a victory lap, then someone told him he had 1 lap to go, but koech had gotten a insurmountable lead by then and komen ran 13:06 for second. anyway i am very interested in this race, i say 1. komen 12:59 2. koech 13:01 3. rupp 13:05 (i have a feeling he will have a huge breakthrough year in 2011. |

I hate to beat a dead horse, but it is the same Daniel Komen. |

You can't tell your Komens without a scorecard (and an ID?).... The Komen you are thinking about is Daniel Kipchirchir Komen, with PBs of 3:29 and 13:04, and not the Daniel Komen that ran 7:20. This Komen ran 3:32 (and 13:04) last year. However, THE Daniel Komen of 7:20 fame and former WR holder at 5000 ALSO ran 3:50 at Eugene in 2010. I kid you not. If Geb can unretire... Hard to say which Daniel Komen is going to show up in Dusseldorf. |

No,it was Daniel Kipchirchir Komen that ran 3:50 at Pre in 2010. Here's the last lap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfrzosnK7k8 and here's an article: http://www.racecenter.com/2010/07/pre-classic-wrap-kiprop-leads-20-under-four-minutes-in-bowerman-mile/ |

Are you sure that the track has been Rupp-Certified? Is Nike flying in a special surfacing material and a custom air-filtration system for the building? hahahaah just jokin'!! I hope that Mr. Rupp pops a damn good one!!! Sub 13:10 or bust!!! It's great to see him forgoing the "low-hanging fruit" like the Iowa State or University of Washington meets and flying over to Germany to rumble with the big boys. |

The IAAF says otherwise. |

The IAAF says otherwise.[/quote] Watch the clip from the race and then watch any of the 1990's Komen's races and tell me if you think it's the same guy. |

Well, I think it's safe to say that somebody named Daniel Komen will show up. I thought the 7:20 Komen had retired some years ago, but I'm starting to wonder. |

You post here and seriously thought that was the 7:20 Komen? |

no us cross, no world cross. a longish indoor season, a break, a later-starting outdoor season. |
| ?????????????????????? |

Why is there this constant confusion about Komen? Identifying the right Komen is harder than identifying that fish that was on here before. I am fascinated as to why it is so hard to figure out which is which. |

I heard he trains with Robert Cheruiyot |

It's awful how the IAAF misattributes performances. They've done this with other similarly-named Kenyans in the past. For example, 2010 performances by a young marathon runner named Evans Ruto have been attributed to the former great Evans Rutto, who hasn't run at the highest level in years. |
