This is not a joke. Everyone is shocked. "It's better to stop here" and he definitely means his career. At first we thought he was talking about the race and not his career. |

Good for Geb. I can't imagine how difficult it is to keep a 37 year old body at world class condition. It would be awful to see him trying to maintain and fail over and over just for the $$$. Let's just hope he doesn't know Brett Favre. |

He will be missed more than any other runner I can imagine. I had a dream about him coming out on top in the 2012 Olympic Marathon, which I'm sad won't be the case. Still, he owes nothing to anyone. Those who would criticize him for today are small people. Geb is both a legend and a value to the sport. |

Definitely sucks, but I think it shows just how much he was aware of what people have said about his late career (dodging tough competition). That said, I would guess that after some time off, that he will try for London 2012 anyway. |

Wow, listen to the reporters gasp, and then Geb's demeanor -- I love the guy and hope his body heals up and he changes his mind, but I'm reflecting on all of the competitions that he's brought us through the years and I can say 100% that I'm thankful we've had him for so long. Embracing the competitive spirit in his prime, battling against the clock in the marathon, I'm just thankful we've had him for as long as we have. |

It's been a great ride. His mid-90's track running got me back into the sport. May he find as great success in his new ventures. |
