So, I read Daniels book & utilize it A LOT. Someone recommended Vigil's Road to the Top. Got it in the mail on Friday. NOT IMPRESSED. Daniels is much more useful...including workouts & pace charts. Why the hype over Vigil's book? Someone on this forum said 14 NXN teams used Vigil, but Daniels seems to carry more clarity & application. Hmmmmmm. Now, I'm going to break open Coe's book. Wish me luck, but it seems really THICK! |

It's more difficult to understand, sure. But don't write it off because of that. Daniels has Human Kinetics publish his book; Vigil certainly did not. It's tougher to understand but should be as respected as Daniels if not more. By the way, Vigil borrowed a fair amount from Peter Coe. |

I coached college track/xc for many years and was really excited to get Vigil's book. Sadly, I actually had to give up on it. It was so poorly produced, shabbily proofread, and confusingly "organized" that I was able to extract almost nothing useful from it. That made me very sad. Some coaches whom I really respect had talked about Vigil's brilliance, as well as his ability to present difficult theoretical material in practical, accessible terms. Well, maybe when he's talking with you--not from his book. |
