Anyone else watch the ACC men's 3000? Virginia Tech runner, and outdoor ACC 5k champ, Will Mulherin was DQ'd for a shove on the bell lap. At the time of the shove he was in 2nd, but was able to out kick the NC State kid to "win." Had he not been DQ'd the Hokies would have won the team title by 1 point. Anyone at the meet have an opinion? It was certainly a shove, but it didn't seem to warrant a DQ from my point of view. |

send those points to Durham as we need them |

I was wondering about the 3k. Why was the defending champ in the 3k Moldovan from NC State stuck in the B heat. |

super funny send those points to Durham as we need them |

Moldovan did not have a 3k time fast enough to get in the fast heat. As far as I know, Mulherin was not DQ'd for a shove on the bell lap. He was DQ'd for shoving FSU's O'Lionard (sp?) to the ground in the middle of the race, forget which lap but close to a mile in probably. |

No, you are wrong. The DQ was from the pushing between Mulherin and Leeder as Leeder cut in a little close on Mulherin going into the bell lap. Just typical stuff that happens in racing as a result of BOTH of the kids competing against each other, not just Mulherin "pushing" Leeder to maintain his space when getting cut in on. No one should have been DQ'd, and wouldn't have been until Braman jumped up on the track yelling and getting on the official causing them to call a late foul. It's a shame, it was a good race. |

Either way, Mulherin should have gotten the boot for acting like a d bag after winning. Pretty classless |
| are you kidding? |

haha calling mulherin a d bag? grow up. when you win a race and then are stripped of your title (the acc title, no less) on a bullshit call, you're gonna be a little upset. he had every right to be frustrated. i have seen elbows thrown much more violently that are never called. in fact, i saw one thrown by leeder in that race. everyone knows that mulherin deserves that title. enjoy your bullshit championship, fsu; nobody is going to respect it. |

The DQ call was upheld by the referee. Where's he from? Virginia Tech. End of discussion. |

It's a shame, it was a good race.
There was incidental contact at the bell lap between Mulherin and Leeder. The foul was when Mulherin put his hand between Leeder's shoulder blades and stiff armed Leeder into lane 3, causing Leeder to stumble and lose any momentum he had going into the last lap. The referee on the inside of the track raised her flag for a foul. This had nothing to do with the FSU coaches yelling, as they were yelling at the referee on the OUTSIDE of the track who claimed he didn't see anything. Va Tech can whine and protest the call all they want, but it was a blatant foul. The unfortunate part was that the meet was not officiated very well as there were many, many, incidents that should have been flagged as fouls that weren't, and then, when they finally do call a foul it is on the hometown kid. But, Mulherin took the chance by throwing a blatant foul on another competitor and got burned. Same thing as speeding. Many try to get away with it, and only some get caught. Mulherin was speeding (as many others were this weekend) and was flagged down for the ticket. |

When you get cut off around a turn, what is your first instinct? You put your hand out to protect yourself from being pushed off the track. Leeder did not have ample room to cut in and pass Mulherin but attempted to anyway. |

There is a HUGE difference from putting your hand on someone, and thowing them out two lanes (and almost to the ground). Leeder did not impede, nor caused Mulherin to break stride. He broke the rules and got caught. Tough break but that's the risk he took. His actions towards the FSU coaching staff, and the VaTech's actions towards Leeder post race were dispicable. |

Wow, that was indeed a bullshit DQ. A video review system would have done wonders in this situation. |

Wow, that was indeed a bullshit DQ. A video review system would have done wonders in this situation.
Wait untill ACCselect has the official video up on-line, not the BS hokie video with the obstructed view due to the lap counter. Too bad there was not video of the profanity laden tirade from Mulherin directed at the FSU sprint coach, or the insulting commnents made by a volunteer hokie coach to FSU's head coach. Then we would have seen the real classless acts of the meet. |
| mulherin is a dbag |

On the other hand, when you are stripped of the title because of a perfectly valid call for confusing running with boxing as he was and you get all upset about it you are just a d-bag. |

Mulherin does this. He pushed Collins last year outdoors with 100m to go in the 5k, arguably costing Collins the victory and UVA an unshared ACC title (they tied FSU last year). Hopefully Mulherin will rethink his race behavior after this DQ. |
