And it looks like the rest of the team runs some big miles too.

Her improvement has been very steady and noticeable throughout college.

She seems to be very durable. It's funny how she ran 4:56 big PR to win and looked down and clicked her watch like it was a training interval. I predict either sub-33 min. for 10000 or implosion.

So has Pixler's, on about 100mpw less then Sarah's. I wonder what Porter would be capable of with some intelligent training?

What are you talking about? She has steadily improved throughout college with the high mileage. Looks like it is working for her, let's leave it at that.

Pixler is brilliant, but Porter has, relatively speaking, improved far more in college, building mileage the whole way. From her comments, she is prepping to become a serious marathoner,a much different emphasis than the mile which Pixler is obviously suited towards. I credit the girl for pioneering the way for ambitious collegiate women, provided she keeps it healthy.

building mileage the wrong way, 130/week ok does her coach know what progression is, where does she go from here 150/160/week, I highly doubt she will develop into a National class runner let alone an elite, it's too bad because she definitely has the drive which will is a great asset but someone needs to pull her back, no need for that type of volume at her level/age, Kara G. and Deena K. didn't even come close to that volume at her age/level, and don't give me this BS about talent and everyone is different, the internet and Lets's Run have been great for running but unforturnately the obsession with mileage being the be all to end all has brainwashed quite of few young runners, progression in mileage takes years not months

hopefully she is counting her volume using km's or her mileage is embellished

You're right, this clearly isn't working for her (as evidenced by her slow times!). You've got so much wonderful advice for the world- how many pro athletes are you coaching? I bet it's a lot!

and how is her being a D2 runner relevant? Do all D1 runners do 100+ a week, D2 80 per week, and D3 60 per week?

Isn't Western Washington/Bellingham considered one of the best places in the US for trail running?? Power to her if she's got the resources, time, and energy to put in that kind of mileage in college. America needs more young ladies like her willing to put in the mileage now, to be good later.

Actually I think if she was in D1, she would have a shot at winning the 10k. NCAA champion regardless of what event is far from mediocre.

Runner40 not gonna lie you're embarassing yourself. The elite marathoners and ultra runners sometimes do 150-160 mpw. Kara and Deena were blessed with speed that a lot of runners don't have ergo they don't need to train as hard to run faster. I live in Bellingham and am proud that someone like Sarah is so dedicated to her sport.

Will Pixler join one of the Oregon training groups after college? It'd be fun to see her join a strong training group.

did I miss something, is now considered an elite marathoner because she does 130/week, ya Kara and Deena don't have to train hard, the only one embarassing themselves is you, crawl back in your hole
