Galen Rupp is expected to run the mile at the Husky Last Chance meet Saturday in the Dempsey Indoor Facility. Rupp ran 1:49.87 for 800 meters last weekend. Rupp has never dipped below 4 minutes before, but this weekend looks like it will happen. Predictions? |

Assuming a pace setter or Rupp goes hard from the start: 3:54.7. That's a bit for fun of course, but if he feels great and unleashes I think he can on that track. He's long overdue for a fast mile and is certainly capable of it. He should be able to run 3:57 in a workout now. More likely he is supposed to go with the pace and then work on his kick to win, which will is a great tactic but not much fun for us. |

I hope he runs sub 3:55..... With a 1:49 half recently and the 7:44, 13:18...... He is for sure capable of it! |

3:57, then he comes out of the closet. |

Assuming this is real, 3:55.4 He ran the last 1/3rd of his 3K at 7:40 pace and the last 1/3rd of his 5K at close to 13:12-13:14 pace so he actually got some good turnover in those races. Both of them he finished with around 27 for his last 200 I believe. Take his 1:51 and 1:49 800's, and his mile where he went out in 2:15 and finished in 1:55 to outkick Sherer and things seem to be looking pretty good for Rupp in terms of a mile. He's been a little under the radar with Fernandez doing his damage, but he is really fast across the board. I'd like to see he and Chelenga rip a 3K at NCAA's since that 7:44 started out slow and he was getting over illness. Perhaps Coe will help get the pace going early. Could see 4 or 5 guys go under 7:50 even without Fernandez, and I think Rupp can get under 7:40. Anyone have an idea what the schedule is for NCAA's in terms of 3K & 5K, prelims etc.? |

Hi Ducksoup It's the Oregonlive track board. http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfield/ If Galen is paced, I think 57-58; if it is more of a roller derby affair, then 59. |

I haven't seen this talked about anywhere but here. If it goes out quickly I think he can hammer a 3:56. |

How disappointed will you all be when it doesn't happen? While I know it's within the realm of possibility, It's also highly likely it just won't happen. |

Anybody feel the way this guy does? Posted by luckaduck on 03/04/09 at 11:10AM I am so bias towards the ducks track program, that I honestly find it difficult to understand why any, and I mean any promising young budding track and field star of either sex would even consider going anywhere else than the University of Oregon. |
