Moving beyond Jager Bombs and beer. What are some drink ideas now that I am in he adult world. 1/26/2009 9:03AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Being an overly anal runner type, I avoided drinking except for an end of season Jager Bomb fest or maybe a couple of beers.

Now that I am out of school and in the real world what are some drinks I can have when out with work people? These are professional types of people from an office type job. I don't want to look like a dork and would like some ideas.

Next time out with your co-workers, tell the bartender you want a Crown & Coke, easy on the Coke, then laugh obnoxiously after you say it. When you get the drink, chug it, then start barking really loud while giving the Q-dog sign.

Go for wine. It is healthy and will make you look like you are sophisticated. Ordering mixed drinks will make you look like a future AA member. Scout out the local wine bars and suggest going there instead of the usual dive. Wine bars are quiet, have excellent food and are a good place to socialize with people from work.

Gin and Tonic or Vodka and soda. Both are very simple and unpretentious, but demonstrate that you are a guy who can handle hard liquor (assuming you can).

Definitely do not have many. Work is no place for being the life of the party.

Actually , to clarify, if your job is to be a clown at kids' birthday parties, then work is in fact the exact place to be the life of the party.

Why would you need to move beyond beer to enter the adult world? Just move beyond cheap beer and plastic cups.

this is great for dinner time.

However, if you are just out with other men, don't order wine. Go for scotch on the rocks. Black Label is fine in my opinion, but you can go for the more expensive stuff if you have the funds.

You've got it all wrong - these guys are going to be totally jealous that you're still young and will wish to relive their collegiate heyday through you (and your drink selections).

Stick to ordering mixed drinks with super fratty names like "Adios, Motherf***er" and "The Panty Remover." Each time you place a drink order, make the hardcore/devil sign with your first finger and pinky extended, and stick out your tongue while closing your eyes.

When the drink arrives, again turn to the group, make eye contact with each member, and loudly announce your beverage by name, taking care to extend the first vowel sound. For example "Aaaaaadios Motherf***er" or "Paaaaaaanty Dropper!"

Drink every drink in under 10 seconds, no exceptions. Devil/hardcore signs again when you finish it.

Everyone will love you.

If you don't want to drink (even if everyone else is), be a man and don't drink. I often go out with colleagues, all of whom order drinks, and I'll just get a water and/or Diet Coke. If you do want a drink, however, wine would be a good choice.

Never had ginger ale and rum...sounds good! I'm a fan of Diet Coke and rum, but I do believe I'll try the drink you suggested!

Tell the bartender give me one bourbon, one scotch, one beer.

Actually just order a beer. Mac and Jacks is a good one, but the micro-brews are the best!! Rum and Coke is something for the weekends, Wine is for a dinner type setting, drinking straight liquor on the rocks will make u look like a raging Alc. Beer and Pool is the way to go!!

Martini. Classic drink. The key though is to order it shaken, not stirred.

This indicates that you are man of sophistication and know exactly what you want in a drink, and that you will not settle for the low brow crap that is foisted on those of lesser taste.

I guarantee some of the older guys in your office will think to themselves "I like the cut of that that kid's jib. He really thinks for himself and doesn't copy others".

If you really want to demonstrate that you have moved beyond your college days, this drink is best enjoyed while wearing a white tuxedo dinner jacket. But I realise that this may be a bit dressy depending on where you work.

Seriously? Where the hell are you working and who the hell are you trying to impress? Drink what you want. If I was with a group and a guy ordered a martini, I would seriously think he's gay.

Personally, I go with microbrew/craft beers.

If you really want to impress, do a line of coke. Like a big f***ing line. And use a snorkle.

experiment, take each spirit and mix a simple highball using an 10 oz glass filled with ice
1 part spirit (ues a maindtream brand-Dewars not JohnBlue Bacardi not Myers etc)
3 parts water
repeat with club soda
by this point you will have a good idea where your tastes lie.
I firmly believe using a sugared drink like Cola as a delivery system for spirits leads to alcohol abuse down the road.
I often order CampariSoda in afterwork settings, one drink lasts you a long time and is not the stuff one normally ODs on(I note your carroway jones so that theory maynot hold water). You are much less likely to tell Biff the Boss you would love to boff his secretary after one Campari than after 4 151 rum and cokes.

A friend of mine made a New Year's resolution to try 52 different mixed drinks in the upcoming year. Give that a shot. My favorites happen to be Manhattans and Gin & tonic. If you don't have any idea what a good mixed drink might be, ask the bartender. If they don't have any recommendations, leave. Or just drink micro-brew beer and be cool like me (you won't be as cool as me at first or, let's face it, ever, but it will give you something to shoot for).

Being an adult means drinking whatever the hell you want. If you like beer then stick with it. Beer is not a college drink necessarily.
