Andrew Springer from Rhode Island ran the fastest high school mile today at the Yale Invitational in 4:10.61 after running 4:10 last night at 1600 meters in the anchor leg of the relay. Mark Feigen also from Rhode Island finished second in 4:14.68 over Omar Addi. Both runners punched their tickets to the Millrose mile next month. Springer looks to be the favorite going into that race. Your picks and comments welcome. |

Millrose, schmillrose. Who's running at BIG in Boston? That's where the action is. |

Fastest high school mile, so far this year. We'll see, certainly a talented dude. But he's got a nasty habit of running lots of races (fast, mind you) early, and then fading at the end of the season. Millrose will be a crapshoot. Small, tight track with lots of big kickers. He's the favorite, for sure, but any one of 4 or 5 guys could win. |

Any idea where he is going to college? |

Right about the heavy racing load, coach is a bit nuts. he had a top notch girl a few years ago and he raced the legs off of her as well. She will never be the same, ask BC. |

The races are posted now on Flotrack. Springer basically runs the race alone way out in front, had he not run a fast 4:10 the day before, and if he had someone pushing him I could see him running 4:05. I think right now he is in 4:05 shape, and he is still improving. If he can get into the right mixed race with elite pros outdoors, he could break 4:00 min for the mile outdoors. To the point of him running too many races, point well taken, his coach should save him for just the biggest races now, that said this was time to make a name for himself and I don't think he's been mishandled, I don't see many of the big names from Footlocker even trying to run fast times indoors now. Soloman Haile ran a 2:01 for 800 meters in a relay and obviously not in top form. SG had other issues at BC, yes she probably ran more races than she should have, but not burned out. |

Feigen will win, hes got the perfect amount of races under his belt. A 1200 at brown, a fast 1k and now a good mile. Springer has already run a 3k really fast on a slow track early, a fast mile at the same meet, and a hard 1600 and mile double. Brett johnson doesnt seem to be in his normal 408 shape yet, and being that he has never run indoor before the tight turns of millrose could be tough. Rob¡ư andrews may be tough, but a lot of the other guys like to push the pace and that might hurt him. Curious to see what kind of shape he is in. Im assuming bj and ra may be in BIG based on their jr years. I am going to go with feigen though, im expecting him to kick like he did at new englands. |

springer has always done a lot of races, but the kid is a footlocker finalist and is a 3 time track all american. so despite his heavy race load, he still brings it at the end of the season. and as for his coach mishandling talent, SG's fastest 1500 time was from her soph. year. it happens. springer has been steadily improving every year. the kid is a monster talent. |

Yea, SG was running 4 races per meet since her frosh year, of course she couldn't keep it up. She also ran 6 races at the Indoor Nats. Do not trust this coach to do what is best for Springer, has already hit evry big meet in the northeast this winter, not smart coaching. |

This is all well and good but is he as good as some obscure guy from Australia who no one has heard of nor cares about because this site is based in the U.S. You know they'll be someone from down under braggin' about he's going to take the world by storm just like Mottram hasn't. |

Springer has improved every year. so what he is doing seems to be working for him. he doesn't have to race hard at most in-state meets, so why not crush the competition at big invites. |

Are you serious? You clearly are not familiar with Springer's career. He's pr'ed at the end of nearly every season he's had. I think the best is yet to come. I know you're not trying to bash him, and I'm not saying he's going to run away with it at Millrose- there are a lot of great runners this year- but to say he burns out at the end of the season is simply not true. |

From an email "Subject: Andrew Springer Millrose Mile Thank you for the invitation for Andrew Springer to run at the prestigeous Millrose Games. The Millrose Games has a rich history of showcasing elite high school runners. It is an honor that he has been chosen. Given Andrews schedule and taking into consideration all his other committments he has, he is respectfully declining the invitation. Again thank you Ryan Palmer" |
