I love this week's Michigan XC press release, in which they let us know that Ron has a record of 2,823-595-7 in his 35 years at Michigan. Pretty sweet- http://www.mgoblue.com/cross-country-m/article.aspx?id=155652 |

I heard he also has the record for injuring runners as well. Booooooo. |

I heard he had more olympic medals from his professional athletes then all of the USA in male distance running this year. Heard he coached a runner who holds the Canadian record in the 1500 and held the 3ki when he was there. Heard he coached a runner who ran 334 this year for a pr and made the olympics after being tol he would never run again, and the only American who ran faster was Lagat. Heard he coached an American to a 7:39 indoor 3k for an American Record. Heard he took a guy who was missing a toe an helped him drop several seconds off his pr to run 333 in the 1500. |

I'd say that you heard a lot wrong. Bob Parks solely took care of the kid without the toe and it wasn't several seconds that he took off his PR. I can't think of a single olympic medal this year. Sorry. Willis got a medal but I don't think Warhurst was coaching him. |

fat boy, you are soooooo fat the fat is getting to your mind.. Warhurst may not have the emo flotrack interviews, he may not be all popular on the boards, he may not speak well with the media... but by god he gets the job done. His athletes run well at the olympics... the big dance, while other coaches athletes have good indoors, big NCAA's or blazing Mt Sacs..... whoopdy doo... |

Fat Boy..you are way off. Warhurst shapes all the training for team Willis which gets some helpfrom his brother Steve. same for Brannen, and maybe someone else soon? 1-2more? 11 Olympians, medal winners, way better success coaching 1500M runners than any other American Coach in quite a while. Too many knocks on a guy getting it done too well.Try to be objective once in a while. |

Warhurst coaches Willis. Steve holds the watch and offers input. Warhurst has coached two Olympic medalists. Who has a better record in the NCAA? |

I don't post very often on this site and this might be my first post in about 4 years but this thread has really bothered me. Before you post something about an amazing coach, get your facts straight. First of all, wisco boy, if you want to be serious here then you would know Wisconsin guys are way more injury plagued than Michigan guys. Right now they have both Eagon and Withrow coming back from injury. Michigan has no injured runners. I’m not trying to call anyone out but the fact with running is runners DO get injured and it’s a fact of being a runner. Second, Ron does coach Willis and DID coach Willis to a bronze medal at this summers Olympics. Ron wouldn't have been at the Games, coaching him all year, through his training camp and at the Games if HE wasn't his coach. Nick's brother Steve stepped up last year to offer Nick support leading up to the Games, also known as Team Willis. When Paul McMullen came to Michigan he had hardly run in the last couple years and wanted to train with Ron and make his comeback. He came here after just running 3:50 for the 1500m and Ron got him back into form, PR'ing to a 3:33 and making the World Champs 1500m final. Every coach has issues to deal with, including injuries. You can never blame an injury on the coach if the athlete red-lines all the time and never takes the recovery days needed. I was one of those athletes in college and always tried to get the most out of my body. Ron knew when to hold me back and push me but it was my responsibility on my recovery days to run easy and if I didn't, that wasn't Ron's fault. He is a great coach and if you don't have anything good to say, then say nothing. Don't come on a board talking shit about a) someone you don't know, or b) something you don't know what you're talking about. |

Obviously don't know the ins and outs like Mr. Brannen here, but I have to say I agree by looking at results and interviews. All of his athletes have great things to say and his results speak for themselves. One of the better coaches in the nation, I'd say. |

Just curious, what is Lex Williams's injury this year (finished 50th at Big Tens when he should have vied for the title). Just curious, what was Mike Sullivan's injury last year during cross country? Not trying to push anyone's buttons here, but is there not a pattern to Michigan studs (like Brannen) getting injured in their senior years? I guess the same has been true with Wisconsin? Is part of it just that coaches from elite colleges push their best runners to the limit, and when it pays off they PR, and when it doesnt' they get injured? Do elite coaches play the margins of overtraining/injury more than others? |

Jesus Christ dude, you're never going to get 25 guys training hard without some injuries here and there. Anyone who is trying to improve is skirting the line between health and injury, optimal training and overtraining. I'm a nobody and I've been injured twice this year. You can't blame that on an elite coach. |

How do you even calculate such a record?? If you are at a 40 team meet and you finish 5th does that court for 35-4? |

That's how we do it. |

You are correct it wasn't several seconds. It was the fastest time he had run in 6 years and hadn't broken 336 since his pr set 6 years earlier, and his fastest time the last two years before that was 3:42.90...so to drop to 3:33.89 is very impressive. And it was Warhurst who was coaching him. He even listed webb and sullivan as his training partners in 2001. It's mildly impossible to not have warhurst as your coach if you're doing his workouts and listing him as your coach. And as other posters are saying, Willis got his training from Warhurst. Sorry buddy. |

Well, I guess I should have realized what I was getting into when I made the original post. I certainly wasn't trying to bait the Warhurst haters- of which I know there are many who post here. I just have never seen a XC coach post their record like that. I gotta believe that someone in the AD office has a pretty good sense of humor- |
