All-time top ten US American collegiate 5K list? 5/5/2008 1:30AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I just watched Brent Vaughn's ballsy 5000m @ Stanford online (thanks, FloTrack!) Someone commented on the site that he is now the #2 all-time US American collegian behind only Bill McChesney. That list specifically excludes non-US-born collegians like Henry Rono.

I have Googled extensively, but have yet to locate a "Top Ten" record list of the fastest-ever US collegians in the 5k. Can somebody please point the way?

Eh, some of them are considered outside the collegiate season. But of course semantics only come in to play when they work in your favor, malmo.

Excuse me? It's 2008 and Letsrun is now the arbiter of what constitutes collegiate lists.

malmo,

What's your source? Your date for McChesney is wrong, so I'm wondering where you dug up this info.

OK,

T&FNews has a bit more, but as mentioned in a posting above, some of these times apparently were not run when the kid was technically a "collegiate" runner, which I guess means after graduation or perhaps after the end of spring semester? Feel free to comment on what constitutes a record being considered "officially collegiate."

I'm pretty sure that David Kimani and Cheseret both ran around 13:10-13:12 while still in college. Those should be added to the Non-American list. Although David had almost gotten his citizenship status by the time he died at the end of his college career. He also was married to an American girl that went to my high school.

He ran that in 1990, the same year as his 3:49 Mile, so I'm guessing it was a few years after college.

Solinsky ran 13 12 last summer after the NCAA meet. He's still in college but has no more eligibility...

What about Robert Cheseret? He ran a 13:13.23 in Oslo on July 29th, 2005. So maybe he deserves to be on the list. He ran this time while he was at the University of Arizona.

I'm guessing Cheseret is not a U.S. citizen, and that's what this thread is about.

Anyone know who Paul Geis was? The name is new to me. Was this time accomplished during his collegiate career?
