heard a rumor that the NCAA is abolishing regionals in favor of a 11 day "super 64 / sweet 16" format. Basically all conference champions and the 36 fastest runners (excluding cc) for each event compete over 4 days in separate heats until 16 remain, then 3 day break and the sweet 16 begins. any word on this? whats the rational? why don't they just redraw the regions? |

I heard that they will make everyone run in turkey suits and that Skuj will be employed by the NCAA to personally blow every champion. B---S--t. |

The only B.S. is this new system. You may think it is not real but it is very real. You are laughing now but you won't be laughing for long. morning runner doesn't joke around about stuff like this. |

its like they are trying to turn this into basketball. i don't understand the rational, its going to end up being multiple races in a short time span. plus its going to lead to a lot of standard chasing and not racing |

i believe this new format will favor a young man named Deacon Kearney, 800 meter runner for Saint Joseph's University. |

I've read through the 15 page explanation and I like the one site super 64/sweet-16 format. The one element that seemed questionable was the automatic berth to the super 64 for any conference champion. We all know that some conferences are tough and some are weak. At the same time, it still leaves, at minimum, 34 to 36 spots to qualify from the descending order list. In reality, a good number of the conference champions will already have top times, so it will probably be that the top 50 from the descending order list will go the super 64. What's also nice, is that the 16 who go on to the NCAA championships won't have to fly again, but can just stay at the competition site and get ready to compete. All in all, I'm amazed at how good an arrangement this is. Well done to the group who put it together! |

Cost in dollars and re-imbursement protocol please? 11 days is a long time plus ticket change costs if athletes are eliminated? |
| So what your saying is? |

Wait a minute! So a 10k runner has to run two in the 11 day period? And perhaps get there by winning conference? And probably run one or two more chasing the mark in case they don't win conference. Nice planning to kill the 10k runner if that's how it works... |

Every D1 xc runner runs two 10ks in 10 days already. |

I'm trying to picture exactly what a runner will be doing for 11 days. Can someone explain the whole scenario? Let's take the 800. So all the conference champs plus next 34 or whatever fastest times show up at some site. On day one they... |

Apples and oranges comparing xc and track 10ks. Especially if the athlete is running more than two in the 11 days, which they must. |

A 10k runner will run once in the Super64 time slot and be looking to place 16th. (or higher). Then he/she will race again in the finals the next week in the Sweet 16. The same is true for the 5000. The steeple guy will have to run two rounds in the Super64, then progress to a final. The 100-1500 guys will do two rounds in the Super64 and two rounds in the Sweet16. Field events will do two rounds in the Super64 and in the Sweet 16. The NCAA will pick up costs for those who make the Sweet 16. |

This is not in the best interest of the athlete or the NCAA. No athlete in a distance event would be able to double at nationals. This in turn will water down the fields and bring slow times in the final. The race will not go to the best in the field, but the one who can survive the rounds... Maybe this isn't a bad thing for my program, but for the NCAA it is not the best. |
