If they decide to roll out their A team, is there a possibility for perfect score over te rest of the conference? I can't think of anyone who can break up Withrow, Solinsky, Bairu, but who can even get in there with Ford, Eagon (didn't fall away from bairu until late at Griak)along with possible Wagner, Lockhart, and whatever Footlocker champions I am missing?
hillarious

bairu,solinsky,withrow,eagon will be top 4.
If I were Shumacher, I would STILL worry about the Big Dance in Terre Haute as its TEN km. and if Eagon fell about 30 secs. off Bairu, wher will nos. four and five be??.A huge problem

Arkansas is ging to roll at NCAA's. Wisconsin will be fortunate to get 2nd. As for Big 10's, I may see them going 1-3, but after that, you have too many other individuals (Woods, Olinger, Ealy, Haas, Jeffersons, Haut) to name just a few. Truth is, Jerry would be smart to not race 1 or even 2 of the big guns at Big 10's and maybe sit them all at Regionals? Then they start to think like Arkansas.

Nice of you to throw in Woods, Haut and Olinger in that list, guys that were at Griak that Eagon and Ford rolled up.

I sure Olinger will be fine. Eagon and Ford have been training for this season for a year now since they did nothing in track while Olinger was in Europe racing cause hes a badass, so I'm sure hes not in top form for the Griak meet which means nothing.

Woods is a definate possibilty to break up wiscos 7. Just because he got "rolled" up this past weekend means nothing. He's just getting rolling. He ran late this past summer. He ran what...358? 357? in the mile this past summer. ran 802 indoors last year in the 3k as a freshman. 758? outdoors. He wasn't even going all out this past weekend. He held back in his first race...a 4 mile where he was 8th on the team, 9th counting brannen, and this race pushed harder but still wasn't all out, most like a tempo effort. He'll show up when it counts. Woods ran a little ahead, but aside from hm the whole michigan team ran togther baically the whole race. They weren't trying to place as high as they can obviously. They ran together as a team and got a hard effort in. Not all out for several of them though.

Then you have olinger...don't be stupid. another guy who's season went VERY late. 819 steeple this summer in late July. Don't be so ignorant as to not thing he'll be a force late in the season if he stays healthy.

Just like Arkansas had no problem peaking last year??? I think they slipped more then Wiscon did.

Wisconsin should win NCAAs easily (even with Arkansas far stronger that folks would have guessed). The problem is that Wisco created doubt last year by running soooooooooooo badly at NCAAs. This gives other teams a mental edge at the big race (and puts that lingering doubt in the minds of the Wisco guys). Arkansas and Colorado will run better than they should because they actually both think they have a chance to win.

An athlete from the Wisco men's team with whom I spoke this summer did not sound supremely confident about the upcoming season. I found this shocking given their talent. His biggest concern is that they never really figured out what went wrong last year. In my experience that means they will repeat their mistakes.

The question becomes: Is Wisconsin so much better than everybody else that they can run poorly at NCAAs at still win? I believe they are that good this year, but that they weren't last year (obviously).

Regarding Big 10s: Wisconsin should simply have the group of 7 run together in a controlled fashion over the entire 10k course. They would not have an individual winner, but they'd still win by 100 points. Their tempo run pace is probably the same as the all out race pace of anybody else's #2 runner.

They run 8k.
Wisconsin's #3 man can't run a tempo run and expect to beat the best guys from the other programs!
Wisconsins #3 could at Big Ten

What did Wisconsin do last year at big tens??? 1-2-3 and now they replace the 3rd with an absolute stud. Plus Eagon, Nelson, Ford, Lockhart, Gregory, and Wagner will round out the 9. They could have a 3 way sweep with a hard tempo run. But instead of tempoing big tens they will probably race it and win that way.

Is Withrow injured? I was very suprised to see the Wisconsin lineup that they ran at Griak. Lots of key guys not in the top 7. Are those "Badger Miles" beginning to take their toll on the health of the team?

ahhh yes, 8k.

Yes, the Wisco guys do tempo runs faster than the other Big 10 teams #3 guys.

Funny to be dissing Olinger for his preformance at Griak...because 2 days before the meet, Olinger and the rest of OSU CC team were doing hill repeats pretty hard and numerous. Graik will mean nothing at the end of the season...Bif 10's and NCAA's will be what people remember. Olinger and the rest of the Buckeyes will be fine, and Olinger will be no worse than 3rd. IMO.
why though?

Why does Gary have them doing hill repeats 2 days beofre one of their toughest cross country invitationals of the year? That is probably why Michigan and Iowa beat them; it doesn't make any sense!

Why not? At the end of the year what difference will it make? Unless they don't get a bid to nationals it won't mean squat if they're running better at the end of the year.

I don't know whether it's good motivation or something in the way they train, but the Ohio State guys do tend to race their best at the end of the season (especially in outdoor track). No matter, they ain't touching the Badgers!
