Why is a corticosteroid illegal? Are there even any anabolic effects to add to its anti-inflammatory repertoire?

Well she tested positive for nandrolone (an anabolic steroid). Corticosteriods are not anabolic but have a lot of effects beyond anti-inflammatory.

Why weren't they told that PEDs don't work for Kenyans?

Exactly. If anything, PEDs will slow down the Kenyans.

Perhaps they were trying to "level the playing field" per the Man's edict in DC?

Cheaters use corticos to help boost amongst other things cardiac stroke volume - meaning that the heart essentially contracts harder.

Lance wasn't taking corticos fro "saddle sores".

maybe this will quiet the conspiracy theorists who think that no one will report positive Kenyan doping tests. Road races and marathons have needed to test much more for years.

Don't discredit their times because they doped. Rael 2:23:47 is almost as fast as Paula 2:23:46.

There is no truth to the report. Kenyans don't dope, it is not in their culture and they dont have access or money to the drugs.

Have you actually read what he has written on the subject? I have and I ask you to show me one instance where he has written that steroids would be ineffective in boosting performance. You can't because he's never claimed that.

His case has been that when you have a super freak with one of the best cardiovascular systems in the world (like Shaheen or Bekele) that there's really no room for improvement in terms of oxygen delivery. Agree or disagree, but don't get confused between hormones like EPO and steroids and what they do.

Corticosteroids are postulated to cause an increased strike volume by pushing the frank starling curve. Though, I am only privy to mouse studies related to sarcoidosis, as well as those associated with duchenne's muscular dystrophy. I don't know of any human studies, but I also haven't had to research it in sometime either, as I have retired from my nefarious ways. Stroke volume has nothing to do with squeezing "harder". Stroke volume is the AMOUNT of blood pumped from the left ventricle with each heartbeat. The longterm effects of cortico use are very bad...increased heart disease, as well as higher risk for arrhythmias. In addition, despite on occasion being given to patients with heart failure secondary to a disease called "sarcoidosis", it can also CAUSE heart failure. Some runners/riders might also start to develop stretch marks on their abdomen and look "puffy". However, that would be seen more in overt longterm use or extreme high doses for shorter periods of time.

I could be wrong, but maybe it is because it can be used as a masking agent?

this just proves that kenyans are not genetically superior and it means white guys do not do well because they are lazy trainers.

aside from the obvious benefits, corticosteroids in high doses augment peak VO2, mobilize substrate, minimize work of breathing and increase time to exhaustion in submaximal exercise.

long term the side-effects are as bad or worse as those from anabolic steroids. and that's saying a lot.

You know what's the difference between EPO and hormone?

You can't hear an EPO.
