The same Buster he crushed last year at this same race? Guess it wasn't such a good idea to be racing in January and February after the trials effort last November, especially for an injury-prone athlete such as himself. Amazing how nobody, even the so-called "professionals" on here just don't listen, because, heh, what worked for them just HAS to work for everyone else. Extremely difficult to escape the injury-cycle once it begins. Just ak any CREDIBLE coach. DO NOT ask an athlete.
ouch!

So, since Ritz went pro how many times has he withdrawn from races due to injury? It seems like he's only run in about a dozen races in the past 4 years.

Three races a year with PROPER training isn't bad for a MARATHONER...

Buster's not coming. Maybe HE was afraid of Ritz.
Or maybe in an Olympic year in May, it's futile to expect elites to come to a road 10k, except for Kenyans, since there are 500 guys who can probably break 28:00 and won't make the Olympic team. Please don't write in to tell me 500 is an exaggeration or an understatement. You get my point.

Nope (though it could be), I quite like Malmo. It's a shot at anyone who thinks they, because they reached a certain superior level of fitness, relatively speaking, think that automatically and carnally possess wisdom. There are many of those here. And, what's amazing to me, is, in my sometimes contentious opinion, that Ritz's own coach (es) have not figured this out. Crashing and burning is far more frequent than success, though you never here about it. Just ask the Adams St. guys of the late 80s. For every Rick Robirds, there's five guys that crash.

Wejo, you really need to get an edit function that works AFTER an initial post. This message board is archaic compared to most.

So what you're saying is that your contentious opinion is more valuable than someone else's contentious opinion? I fail to see the logic that running a race or races in January = getting injured in May?

He hasn't always been a marathoner. He runs 5ks, 10ks, 8ks, 2 milers, etc. He has an abnormal frequency of injuries.

Nope, they sure as hell don't come knocking on my door for the answers, but I do have experience with this, both as an athlete and a coach. And I have many years of dialogue with many other coaches and many friends who fit the "crash and burn" mold. You can take the advice or leave it. Doesn't matter to me. I sure as hell would not have had Ritz, of all people, racing in January/February. To me, that borders on stupidity. Perhaps he has a contract obligation.

By the way, you would potentially qualify as one of "many of those on here."

Agree, this forum software is HORRIBLE! Every other board on the web, even the free ones, is superior.

Might Ritz have the temerity to toe the starting line (injured and untrained) in Beijing, and then take a DNF (a la Athens) rather than concede his place on the team?
