"There a lot of people who have given up on me - and it's not just fair-weather fans. It's also people who have been a part of my life and my running career for a long time. People have said, 'Well, you're probably coming to the end of the ride. You probably need to give it up.' That type of thing has been hard to overcome emotionally, but it just becomes so much fuel for my fire."
"I really, really look forward to the day when I can throw it back in the faces of the doubters. It's going to be great - crossing the finish line and giving them a big middle finger."
- We're not sure if we should publish this quote as it almost seems too perfect to be true. Kara Adam Goucher is planning on a fall marathon and eventually getting a spot on the US Olympic marathon team in 2012.
"Sometimes I think maybe it's good to get your ass kicked."
- Anna Pierce, who won Saturday's star-studded USATF 1,500m final over a game Erin Donohue, talking about her outdoor pro opener, her 8th-place finish at the adidas 1,500m.

Read the last 3 or 4 pages of the thread; you might never see LetsRun message board people this happy ever again. Also, the thread coincidentally reached 1,500 posts today.
"Running against Haile is like fighting with a lion."
- Shadrack Lagat after finishing second to Haile Gebrselassie in Trier, Germany. In his last tuneup before the January 22 Dubai Marathon, Gebrselassie covered the 8k loop course in 22:23 despite getting confetti in his eyes and running on a slippery course.
"Today I knew it is my day. I trained very hard, the weather was good. I told the pacemaker to run the first lap under 49 seconds. He did a great job. The last 200 metres I had to push very hard. But I saw the clock - 1:41.09 at the end - fantastic. I am very happy to be the fastest 800 metres runner in the world." - David Rudisha, after breaking Wilson Kipketer's nearly 13-year-old world record in the men's 800 by running 1:41.09. Take 5 minutes of your time and watch the video of Kipketer's old record as well as Rudisha's new one. Both are things of beauty.

"I think sometimes as Americans we tend to put barriers on ourselves and we just can't do it. But it was kind of a progression where I got thrown in with the guys and had to figure some things out about myself - and then mentally that really opened up a lot of doors and the barriers just kind of went away. It was like, 'Man, I can run with these guys!'"
- Leo Manzano discussing his newfound belief in himself on the racelikeagirl blog.

"She goes, 'Wait, wait, wait. You mean like the meet record? The American record?'" Eaton recalled. "I said 'No mom. I broke the WORLD RECORD - the never-been-done-before record.'"
- Oregon senior Ashton Eaton in a Recommended Read AP story about his shocking heptathlon world record set at the NCAA championships 12 days ago.
"The Fastest Man in the World. Never, ever do I get tired of hearing that. If you lined up a hundred people and asked them who the best basketball player in the world is, the best footballer, or the best cricketer, it is unlikely they would provide the same answer. But ask any of them "Who is the best sprinter in the world?" and there is only one answer - Usain Bolt. Why? Because that is what it says on the clock. There can be no dispute or argument ... It doesn't get any cooler than knowing you are the fastest of them all."
- Usain Bolt in his new autobiography, which is being praised for many things, including its marital advice - we swear!
