The last individual final of the 2017 IAAF Worlds is likely to be worth the wait. The Olympic champ Matthew Centrowitz hasn't looked great this year, nor has the reigning 3-time World champ Asbel Kiprop. If they don't win, who will?

We hope you have recovered from the Olympics as on Thursday, Lausanne will serve up a few tasty matchups at the crossover distances of 1000 and 3000 meters. Centro has an outside shot at Rick Wohlhuter's 42-year-old American record of 2:13.9 but he'll have some serious competition on his hands. Indoor world champ Dibaba tackles Obiri in the 3k while Francine Niyonsaba, Margaret Wambui and Melissa Bishop are all entered in the women's 800.

The last time an American won Olympic gold in the 1500, the Chicago Cubs were three months away from winning the World Series. Centro's been in great form, but can he or Americans Robby Andrews and Ben Blankenship fend off defending champ Taoufik Makhloufi, Kenyans Ronald Kwemoi and Elijah Manangoi and a host of others in a deep, talented field?

Centro had a big kick in the first heat to get the win in a super tactical 3:47 while the second heat got off easy as they all basically jogged a 4-minute mile to qualify.

The U.S. has two medal contenders in Centrowitz and Robby Andrews but competition will be tough with half of last year's outdoor World Championship final entered plus defending champ Ayanleh Souleiman.
