Patrick Tiernan did the almost unthinkable and beat Edward Cheserek as NAU got its first national title.

2016 has already seen Leicester City win the English Premier League, the Cleveland Cavaliers win the NBA championship and Donald Trump win the presidential election. Could Cheserek be the next favorite to fall?

Cheserek looked rough in April and early May but flashed his old form at regionals. Can NAU's 27:52 man Futsum Zienasellassie challenge him in the 10k? What about Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin, Stanford's Sean McGorty, Villanova's Patrick Tiernan or Syracuse's Justyn Knight in the 5k?

Cheserek ran the #2 collegiate 3k time ever at Millrose (7:40.51) and is the heavy favorite in the 5k. He's favored to sweep both, but could be vulnerable if he runs the DMR as well on Friday. Syracuse's Justyn Knight, Villanova's Patrick Tiernan, Stanford's Sean McGorty and Washington's Izaic Yorks will all be looking to take him down in the 3k.
