Sarah Crouch took top American honors in 6th in 2:32:37 as Gwen Jorgensen (2:36:23) and Laura Thweatt (DNF) struggled.
Tracking and results for this year's marathon in Chicago can be found here.
The press conference today in Chicago was fascinating. Can a 1:44 800 guy really run 2:05? Can an American not named Galen Rupp run 2:10? Can Laura Thweatt take the next step?
Audio preview of London.
Both men downplayed speculation that Sunday's race would serve as a huge duel between former friends. "We still have a great relationship," Rupp said. Plus Farah reveals he hopes the pacers go out in 62 flat.
Jordan Hasay and Amy Cragg will be missed but three sub-2:20 women including the 2018 Dubai and Tokyo champs are racing as are Laura Thweatt and Gwen Jorgensen.
Plus we also take a look at Augustine Choge's incredible range & search for the next American sub-2:10 guy. We are so excited about this one we've written nearly 4,000 words about it.
Six years ago, they were training partners, the best of buds and on top of the world after going 1-2 in the 10k at the Olympics. Now they are rivals, and this Sunday in Chicago, Mo Farah and Galen Rupp will be quare off for the first time at the 26.2 mile distance.
Gwen Jorgensen is still focused on Olympic gold in 2020.
The international fields for the 2018 Chiago Marathon are out and this year we have no fears about whether Chicago is being watered down to insure a victory by Galen Rupp. If Rupp is to defend his crown, he'll have to defeat the winners of the following marathons in 2018: Dubai, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Paris and Boston. The American hopefuls on the women's side, Jordan Hasay and Amy Cragg, also face increased competition as well.
Rupp knows the only time he's beaten Farah was when Farah fell in a track race. "“I’ve got no excuses...I’m certainly more suited for the longer distances.”
