A recent IAAF rule change states “any type of shoe used [in competition] must be reasonably available to all in the spirit of the universality of athletics.” However, it doesn’t seem that they have any plans to ban the use of prototypes in races – something that athletes like Eliud Kipchoge and Galen Rupp have done recently with the Nike 4%.
