Baylor’s Trayvon Bromell Goes Pro & Signs With New Balance

New Balance just landed a big fish.

US sprint sensation Travyon Bromell, the first US high schooler to break 10.00 in the 100m (9.99 in 2013), the world jr record holder at 100m (9.97 in 2014), the NCAA collegiate record holder at 100m* (9.84 in 2015) and the 2015 World Championship co-bronze medallist at at 100m, has decided to forego his final two years of NCAA collegiate eligibility and signed a mult-year endorsement deal with New Balance. Bromell’s deal was negotiated by his new agent Ricky Simms, the man who represents Usain Bolt.

Bromell gives New Balance, which mainly has focused on distance runners over the years, a high-profile sprinter in its stable of endorsers and also will keep Simms involved on the sprint side of the sport after Usain Bolt retires in 2016 or 2017.

“I’m thrilled to join the New Balance family, a brand that I share many of the same values and principles,” said Bromell in a press release sent sent out by New Balance at 4:50 am ET. “I am especially excited to join a brand that supports me both on and off the track and shares my vision of giving back to young athletes from my home state of Florida.”

Trayvon is a huge talent and has already achieved so much at twenty years old.  He became the youngest ever World Championships 100m medallist this year in Beijing and has the potential to lead the next generation of sprinters and win many more global medals over the next ten years,” said Simms in a separate press release that his agency sent out.

As a freshman at Baylor in 2014, Bromell captured the NCAA 100m title in a world junior record time of 9.97. As a sophomore, he won the indoor 200m title before finishing second in the 100 and third in the 200 outdoors. He went on to make the US World Championship team for Beijing where he tied 2015 NCAA 100 champ Andre de Grasse of USC/Canada for the bronze in the 100.

Bromell, who has pbs of 9.84 (9.76w) and 20.03 (19.86), will continue to live in Waco, TX and train under the guidance of Baylor sprint coach Mike Ford.

NEW BALANCE SIGNS BRONZE WORLD MEDALIST SPRINTER TRAYVON BROMELL

BOSTON, OCTOBER 14, 2015 – Global athletic leader New Balance announced today the signing of 100-meter IAAF World Championship bronze medalist, Trayvon Bromell, to a multi-year endorsement contract. Bromell, a junior at Baylor University, is the world junior 100m record holder and the youngest U.S. athlete ever to medal in the 100m at the World Championships.

Bromell has proven that he is one of the top sprinters in the world at the age of    twenty. The first high school athlete to break ten seconds in the 100 meters, Bromell ran 9.84 seconds at the US Championships in Eugene, becoming the first US teenager to qualify for the world championships in the 100m and followed that up by running 9.92 to claim the 100m bronze medal at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Beijing this past summer.

Bromell currently resides in Waco, TX and will continue to live there and train under Coach Mike Ford as he looks to make his debut as a professional sprinter and achieve his goal of competing for Team USA at the 2016 Olympic Games.

*Track and Field news doesn’t consider Bromell’s 9.84 to be the collegiate record as it was run at USAs after the NCAA season over. They consider his 9.90 time to be the #2 time in NCAA history, behind the 9.89 run behind FSU’s Ngoni Makusha in 2011.
