The innovative year round SPIRE Track and Field Academy in Ohio for high school and post grad athletes has just gotten even better. SPIRE is creating the SPIRE Mac Wilkins Throws Academy under the direction of 1976 Olympic discus champion and former world record holder Mac Wilkins.

High school and post-grad throwers can now train year round at the SPIRE Mac Wilkins Throws Academy and get the expert advice of Wilkins, his coaches, and the Michael Johnson Performance staff at SPIRE.

Under the direction of former University of Pennsylvania Director of Track and Field Charlie Powell, the SPIRE Track and Field Academy was announced earlier this year. The Track Academy at SPIRE in conjunction with prep school Andrews Osborne Academy is designed to maximize the athletic and academic opportunities for serious track and field athletes. In this Q&A with Powell on LetsRun.com, Powell hinted that SPIRE was going to bring a big name throws coach on board, and now with Wilkins creating the SPIRE Mac Wilkins Throws Academy that is official.

The year round throwing academy under the tutelage of Wilkins is designed for athletes to develop an optimal throwing technique and to develop an athletic throwing strength base.
