Men's Mile Heat's: A Fall In Heat 2 Keeps Ohio State's Cory Leslie Out Of The Final

Heat 1 went as expected as 2 of the 3 not to make finals were the slowest two coming into the meet. However, in heat 2 some contact (involving Oklohoma State's Raul Botezan) led to 5th ranked Cory Leslie and Arizona State's Nick Happe going down and failing to make the final, even after appeal. Worth noting that this was very good luck for BU's Rich Peters from heat 1, as Leslie almost certainly would have beat him on time had he not fallen. Miles Batty had the fastest time with 4:03.85.

Women's Mile Heat's: Jordan Hassay and Lucy Van Dalen Win Their Heats

There were a couple of surprises from the women's heats as 3rd ranked Corey McGee and 8th ranked Emily Lipari failed to advance to the final. McGee can blame this on allowing the 2nd heat to go out way slow. They knew what they needed to run after the first heat, but they still went through 800 in 2:27.6 (compared to 2:24.0 from heat 1) and while Jordan Hasay closed in a 2:13.63, McGee couldn't close hard enough to make it.

Men's 800m Heat's: Top Ranked Harun Abda Fails To Make Final

Minnesota's Harun Abda came in the top ranked seed with 1:46.97 having also tied the 8th-fastest indoor 600 in history this winter at 1:15.86. But he didn't make the final as he got 6th in his heat, not even giving him a chance to make it on time. The disappointing indoor campaign for 2010 world junior silver medallist Casimir Loxsom continued as he also was bounced after running 1:54..

Women's 800m Heat's: 2011 Runner-Up Jillian Smith Not In Final

Michigan's 2011 NCAA outdoor runner-up Jillian Smith went out in the heats as did Tennessee's Chanelle Price and Oregon's Laura Roesler. Roseler was out way very fast in 60.35 with California's Soflia Oberg essentially rabbiting the rest of the heat, and both faded badly and missed the final. #1 seed Natalja Piliusina advanced easily as did the three others who have run 2:03 this winter (Palmer, Mackie, Lipsey).
