Wisconsin and Florida State the New #1s in the LetsRun.com NCAA Cross Country Polls
By LetsRun.com October 27, 2011
The pre-conference 2011 LetsRun.com NCAA cross country polls are out and we have new number ones in both the men's and women's polls.
On the men's side, Wisconsin after its dominant performance at its home adidas Invitational where it defeated 20 USTFCCCA ranked teams, is the new #1, jumping ahead of Stanford and previous #1, two time defending champion Oklahoma State.
On the women's side, Florida State, which won the pre Nats meet in Terre Haute, Indiana, moves up to #1 all the way from its previous ranking of #6.
Looking more closely at the men's poll, in the previous LetsRun.com poll, Oklahoma State was the strong #1, with Stanford and Wisconsin battling for the #2 spot. Now, Wisconsin is slightly ahead of Oklahoma State in the top spot, with support for Stanford falling off as the Cardinal received no first place votes. The big gainer in the top 10 was BYU, which jumped up to #4 after being #16 in the last poll. While BYU gained
the most, Oregon was the big loser falling from #5 to #11.
On the women's side, previous #1 Georgetown fell to #4, while defending champion Villanova remained at #2. The big movers were Washington and Vanderbilt who went 1-2 at the adidas meet. Washington moved up from #11 to #3 while Vanderbilt jumped all the way from #27 to #5.
The losers on the women's side were Colorado which fell to #10 from #3 and Duke which dropped from #9 to #33. Things do not get easier for former Big 12 power Colorado as now they are in the Pac 12. This weekend's Pac 12 meet features 5 of the top 10 teams in the country and is definitely the most stacked conference meet.
After this weekend's conference action we'll reopen the voting and have the first LetsRun.com Regional Polls of the year in advance of the regional NCAA qualifying meets.
