NEW BALANCE BECOMES FALMOUTH TITLE SPONSOR

One of America's most iconic summer running events, the Falmouth Road Race, has signed Boston-based shoe and apparel company New Balance as their new title sponsor, organizers announced today.  The point-to-point 7 mile race from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights, which hugs the rugged Cape Cod coast, will be called the New Balance Falmouth Road Race for the 39th edition on Sunday, August 14, 2011.  The previous title sponsor was the healthcare company CIGNA.

"New Balance is thrilled to become the title sponsor of the historic Falmouth Road Race," commented Josh Rowe, running marketing manager at New Balance.  "This race is woven into the fabric of summer in New England and it resonates with recreational runners and elite competitors alike.  It will enable us to highlight our innovative footwear, apparel, and unique brand attributes to runners of all abilities."

With 9738 finishers in 2010, Falmouth is one of New England's largest road races.  Under co-race directors Rich and Kathy Sherman and Lucia and John Carroll, the race has grown by by 35% in terms of finishers since 2005.  The event is also one of the richest road races in the United States, paying out over $100,000 in prize money.  Past race champions include some of the sport's best-ever athletes: Khalid Khannouchi (two victories), Bill Rodgers (three), Alberto Salazar (two), Joan Samuelson (six) Catherine Ndereba (four), Lornah Kiplagat (four), Lynn Jennings, and Grete Waitz.

As part of their sponsorship activation, New Balance said that they would sell a new line of New Balance Falmouth Road Race official gear, completely outfit the race staff in New Balance kit, and become title sponsor of both the high school and elite mile invitational events which are held the day before the road race at the Falmouth High School track.

BOSTON, Oct. 21, 2010 - Global athletic leader New Balance announced today the signing of an official multi-year title sponsorship deal with the historic Falmouth Road Race, to be renamed the New Balance Falmouth Road Race. The company will serve as the title sponsor and official footwear and apparel sponsor starting with the 39th annual race, which will be held on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011. The event is one of the top non-marathon events on the international circuit.

The company will showcase their performance running collection at the Health and Fitness Expo and at the race finish line area as the exclusive merchandiser of the race, providing a new line of New Balance Falmouth Road Race official gear. Race and volunteer staff will be outfitted in New Balance products and the company will coordinate regional retail promotions and advertising activities around the race.

The new line of New Balance Falmouth Road Race official gear will be available at the New Balance Mashpee store, on-site at the race's Health and Fitness expo, and online at www.ShopNewBalance.com, New Balance's online shopping destination, which was formerly recognized as www.NBwebexpress.com.
