September 8, 2010
Yesterday in Arzana, Italy, drug cheat Justin Gatlin ran his sixth race of the year. It was his second defeat as he ran 10.15, the same time as winner Mike Rodgers.
Gatlin's race was into a .5 m/s headwind. From what we can tell Arzana is at an altitude of 680m (2,230 feet). Adjusting for the wind and altitude this is run was a 10.14 which is equal to Gatlin's best run of the year. Mike Rodgers is the IAAF world indoor silver medallists and the US Champ for 100m in 2009 (he did not make the final at Worlds). However, Rodgers has only run sub 10.00 once this year (a wind aided 9.99).
We have been chronicling Gatlin's races and adjusting the times for the wind and altitude thanks to this calculator. Gatlin has been in the 10.15 range his last 4 races.
Gatlin did comeback in Italy and run his first 200m of the year a 20.63 win. Gatlin's race in 2010.
