Matt Tegenkamp Interview after His 13:07.97 5000m
By: LetsRun.com
July 19, 2009

Our friends at what we like to call the Dutch LetsRun.com (the only guys who seem to attempt to interview the African runners and bring them to light) have put up another video they thought our viewers would like and they are right. It's Matt Tegenkamp after his 13:07.97 season opener which got him 2nd place in Heusden to Jonas Cheruiyot.  Cheruiyot was a 12:59 guy in 2006 but in 5 attempts in 2009 hadn't broken 13:14. In 4th place was Lucas Rotich who ran 12:58.70 in Rome the week before.

Matt talks about the race, the wind on the backstretch (13:07 in windy conditions is impressive) and how after a strong 2006 and 2007 he struggled in 2008. Some quotes "You have to be confident in your training.... Running is very much a second tier sport."
