Guilford College Adds Men's & Women's Track

February 9, 2009

Guilford College Athletic Director, Tom Palombo announces the establishment of the school's first ever men's and women's track program beginning with the 2009-2010 school year. Next year, the Guilford track program will be immediately eligible to compete for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference(ODAC) Championship and NCAA qualifying in track. Head Cross Country Coach Heidi Pinkerton and Associate Head Cross Country Coach Bill Cason will assume those duties with the new track team.

A three-time All Southern Conference cross country performer Pinkerton holds five UNC Greensboro track records. Cason brings a wealth of experience and credibility to the track program. He started the track and field program at Division I, UNC Wilmington in 1988 after reestablishing the nationally ranked Clemson University cross country program from 1985-1988. Cason led the Clemson Tigers to the ACC cross country and indoor track titles during the 1987-88 school year. He was named ACC cross country coach of the year following the 1988 X-C season.

The new track program will emphasize middle & long distance events(400m to 10,000m) as an extension of the school's X-C program. For more information on the new track program, contact Associate Head X-C/Track coach, Bill Cason at [email protected] or call 336-734-3009 cell or 336-316-2160 office.
