BIZUNEH INITIATES TWITTER PROJECT IN ADVANCE OF NYC MARATHON

Press Release
October 26, 2009

Elite marathoner Fasil Bizuneh has joined with Twit2Fit, a twitter based fitness group, to promote fitness and develop excitement about his upcoming race, the New York City Marathon which will also serve as the US Marathon Championship.

The unique project, underwritten by the national health care company Humana in collaboration with the American Distance Project, features Fasil and coach Scott Simmons participating in daily twitter exchanges with the Twit2Fit group by using the hash tag #twit2fit in their tweets. Both Bizuneh and Simmons also post blogs, put up video blogs and stage live Twitter Chats at the group’s site www.twit2fit.com.

The initiative stems from talks between the ADP and Humana exploring non-traditional sources of funding for distance athletes. Instead of relying on the traditional support of shoe companies, the ADP is seeking ways that American distance runners can provide value to non-running corporations who can provide support and, in turn, benefit from the relationship in real measurable ways.

Bizuneh and Simmons will be staging their next live one-hour Twitter Chat on Wednesday October 28 from 9-10pm EST. In order to participate, all one needs to do is include the hash tag #twit2fit in a tweet and follow the conversation on a cell phone or PC.

For those unfamiliar, Twitter is a free social networking service that allows users to send and read brief text messages either from their cell phones or computer. To get started, sign up at Twitter.com and follow Fasil (FasilBizuneh) and Scott Simmons (adpcoach) And to see the blog and video posts, logon to Twit2fit.com.
