David Oliver Expresses His Gratitude to the USATF Foundation for Its Support Editor's note: The USATF Foundation gave David Oliver a $5,000 grant for making the Olympic Team. Oliver is one of the top 5 hurdlers in the World so we were surprised this developmental group was giving him money. We commented on this and then started corresponding with Jack Wickens a USATF Foundation board member who explained Oliver was no longer in the program, but the Foundation decided to reward all its former athletes with the grant. (Explanation here). Wickens then forwarded us this email below from Oliver which we got permission to share with you all. Dear Tom and Board Members, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you and the members of the USA Track and Field Foundation for selecting me for this exclusive bonus. You all took a chance on me during my preparations for the 2006 season by granting me and my wishes to be funded by your organization. The support I received during that season really lifted a heavy burden off my shoulders, at the time I have no contract and was working all types of odd jobs to try to meet certain financial obligations in my quest to become a great track and field athlete. Words can't really express my gratitude that I feel towards your openness to help up and coming athletes such as myself during times when we need it the most, the beginning phases of our careers. When I received a call from Tom saying that I received a bonus for making the Olympic team, I was totally shocked. It was one of the most unexpected phone calls I received during that post-trials time period. I was happy that you all remembered that you helped me get to where I am and you all were there on the ground floor. Like a tell people all the time, it is a total team effort and no one does it alone. I am really grateful and indebted to this organization.
