Quote of the Day:
"'Your dreams will come true if you don't give up"

-Naoko Takashi's motto. The 2000 Olympic champs says her training for next week's Nagoya Marathon which included up to 70km (43 miles) a day went great.

Memo To Christie Gaines: Shut The F*** Up

Christies Gaines Urges Dwain Chambers To Sue Gaines, the 37-year old American sprinter, came back from her Balco drug ban last June and like Chambers has been frozen out of meets. She says in this article she may sue as it's illegal acccording to US law. We say: Christie, no one wants a 37-year old sprinter to begin with, let alone a cheat.

Simeon Williamson Doesn't Want To Room With Dwain Chambers at World Indoors Williamson has actually been one of the most welcoming of Chambers; he just doesn't want to share a room with a competitor.

US Team for World Indoors Announced IAAF

The Nick Symmonds, Khadevis Robinson Rivalry Has Reached a New Level Symmonds's coach Gags says in the article he's never had anyone run as fast indoors as Symmonds in his 47 years. (But a reader pointed out to us Gags is forgetting Rich Kenah, who ran 1:46.16 for a world indoor bronze in 1997 (he got the world outdoor bronze as well the same year). We've always thought Kenah was the most overlooked American distance runner in recent memory, and this proves it).

Arkansas to Have a Hearing on Its NCAA Infractions Appeal The University doesn't think it should have to vacate two national titles. It had to give them up as there supposedly was a lack of instiutional control but the university correctly points out: "The university was paying attention but, unfortunately, these violations occurred. There has not been a major violation in the track program in 32 years at the time this occurred. Coach [John ] McDonnell runs a very clean program with integrity."

*Controversy in Men's Shot Put
Boston Globe The big story perhaps should have been Adam Nelson not making the team, but instead it is the feud between Cantwell and Hoffa. (We received news of Cantwell calling Hoffa a "f****** hypocrite" at the post-meet press conference) You'd think at this level, the guys or Nike or someone would make sure they have the 16 lb shot they want. Nelson won't compete for $40,000 at Worlds but did get $25,000 for winning the Visa Championships series.

It was Tegenkamp's first race of 2008, but he is at a level above the rest of the 3000/5000 m runners in America not named Lagat, and his class trumped the sharpness of his training partners as he led a 1-2-3 Wisconsin sweep, as he was followed by Chris Solinsky and Olympian Jonathon Riley (thread here). Wurth-Thomas blew away the field in the women's 1500, and Shannon Rowbury showed the benefits of training with Shalane Flanagan as she upset Jen Rhines in the 3k.

Powell and Wariner Dominate Powell came in at less than 100% but started cautiously and let up 10m before the finish and still ran 10.04. Wariner put aside his opening loss at 200m, and quieted the critics of his coaching change at least temporarily with a 44.82 400m.
