Ryan Shay Being Remembered in Central Park
November 8, 2007
LetsRun.com

Ben Andrews who ran track for Oregon in the late 90s wrote us the following email and attached the photos below.

I ran track at Oregon and distinctly remember watching Ryan win the NCAA title @ Hayward Field. I spoke very briefly with him after the race and you would have thought I had given him a $1,000,000 because he was so appreciative for saying something to him.

On Tuesday before leaving NYC, I took a run through Central Park and ended up at the spot where I last saw Ryan a few days prior.  I sat there for about 30 minutes and saw probably 50 people stop and pay their respects; some talked to rock and flowers, some read the note attached by the family and a few others sat down and said a prayer.

It appears the running community now has two rocks; Pre's in Eugene, OR and Ryan's in Central park, NYC.

I took a picture of the display his family had erected. Please feel free to post/add to gallery as you see fit.
