July 28, 2007

The track action at the 2007 Pan Am Games wrapped up on Saturday. Cuba had a great day. Yeimer Lopez won the 800 in a pb and Pan Am Games Record, Dayron Robles won the hurdles in 13.25, and the Cuban women passed the US on the final stretch to win the 4*400.

Men's 800: Yeimer Lopez PR And Pan Am Record
The Brazilians Kleberson Davilde and Fabiano Pecanha took it out before the loud hometown crowd in 51.28. Cuba's Yeimer Lopez moved up to third at the bell as the first three were clear of the rest of the field. Canada's Achraf Tadili tried to close to the gap to the front three as Cuba's Lopez took the lead at 600 in 1:17.88.

Lopez powered away from the field the final 200m, to take the win in an impressive 1:44.58 PR, a Pan American Games record in the rain. The Brazilians inspired by the homecrowd repassed Tadili in the final stretch to take the silver and bronze.
