Japanese Update: Wanjiru Out of NYC Due to Conflict With Toyota Corporate Team, Mekubo Mogusu Runs His 3rd Sub 1 Hour Half Marathon of 2007 Radialaxis, a letsrun.com visitor in Japan who keeps us appraised of the Japanese scene, says that the Asahi newspaper is reporting that Samuel Wanjiru, the world record holder in the half marathon, has pulled out of the 2007 ING NYC Marathon because of a contractual requirement with his corporate Ekiden team, Toyota. Apparently a condition of Wanjiru's contract is that he spend 180 days a year in Japan and he only has 10 days of leave left which he will use up next week at the World Road Running Champs in Udine, Italy. This is the reason according to the newspaper that he will not make his marathon debut at New York City next month. (NY only announced Wanjiru's debut last week). If you can read Japanese, the Wanjiru story can be found here. Radialaxis also reports that Kenyan Mekubo Mogusu ran 59:58 at the Ichinoseki International Half 1/2 Marathon on September 23rd - his third sub-60 clocking of the year of the year.
