Where Your Dreams Become Reality

Quote of the Day:

"It seems fair that the person who trains hardest is the best in the world but it doesn't work that way. The person who trains the smartest is the best. I'd happily train 24/7 but your body can't take more than three or four hours of intense training a day."

Gate River Run: 6 for 6 for Meb, One for the Thumb for Deena
*Results *Video from Gate River Run

There is a reason these two got Olympic medals in Athens, they are damn good. Deena Kastor put on an exhibition in winning her fifth Gate River Run in 47:20 just missing her American Record. And just as everyone predicted (ha ha right), Meb Keflezighi defeated Ryan  Hall in a relatively modest 43:39 with Hall about 15 seconds behind.

LetsRun.com Preview  Ryan Hall Returns to Racing, Hall Vs Meb Round II It should be a barn burner down in Jacksonville as many expect Todd Williams venerable 15k American record to fall. "I had over-trained. I put too much pressure on myself because I wanted that gold medal too much. If I had trained 15 per cent less, I would have won. I was training like a crazy person. It seemed to good to be true. The meet on live on the internet. But here it is on ESPN360. So once again we give you a way to be unproductive at work. Arizona State is a slight favorite on the women's side while a 3 way battle is expected between Wisconsin, Fl. State, and Texas on the men's side (rankings here). Much could depend on the abilities of Leo Manzano to double in the Mile and DMR and  Wisconsin's Chris Solinsky to double in the 3k and 5k.

LA: Fred Mogaka Only Runs 2:17 but Wins $120,000 at LA Marathon
Yes ladies and gentleman 2:17 was worth $120,000 in LA. That's what happens when you get hot weather, don't pay your bills on time from the year before, and have most of the money given away in a gimmick. Mogaka's agent only got him to run the race this week when the Equalizer Bonus was bumped to $100,000. Mogaka told his agent he was not in shape to win the race an in reality he was right. They were running 6 minute miles at the end. The Equalizer races may raise interest in the sport but there is no reason that the prize ($100,000) has to be 5 times the 1st place prize in the race ($20,000). Hopefully Mogaka will get paid. We still can't believe all the LA papers have skirted the issue of the race not paying its prize money from last year until just a few weeks before this year's race. Instead they write articles like this.

But in 2006, he only finished 2nd in the richest road race in Americam, the World's Best 10k ($15,000). He rectified that on Sunday by winning in Puerto Rico and picking up $25,000 to start the year. He was 8 seconds off of a $15,000 bonus. The guy might be the most overlooked runner in the world.
